**** AFTERNOON SURF UP-DATE**** Hey crew and thanks for stopping by the baliwaves.com to see whats been happening on the Sunday Session here on the happy little surf riddled holiday island called Bali .
Well I didn’t get much of a look at conditions on the Outer Reefs here in Tuban, just a brief glimpse. Wave height had dropped off a touch more from yesterday and was only showing in the 1-2ft range between Kuta Reef and Airport Left. The first of our tides today was a 2.3mtr High @ 9.00am and then a run out 0.4mtr Low @ 3.00pm. Wind direction for starters was only just a light NNE’r @ 1-2knot until around 9.00am when the ESE-SE Tradewind kicked in.
We were up at Canggu this morning, again. But this time I wanted to shoot ya’s some video to show ya’s how actually looks apart from looking at just photos, like usual. There are 3 main breaks at Canggu. The left out the front of the warungs was just starting to get to fat when we arrived at 7.45am but still brea king for the 12 surfers in the waist to shoulder high plus range. The next left peak just to the north was also pulling waist to head high with something like 15+ surfers on getting some nice ones. Then the right hander up a bit furth er was brea king nicely and probably the better wave, but with at least 50 surfers on it.
The Video Clips (Canggu 18th May 1-4) are loading up as you read this or possible even on-line so have a flick through our Video Clip Gallery in the Revver section of baliwaves. Scotto was up there with me, but he was shooting some stills with his 600mm and I’ll get some of them loaded up when he turns up a bit later. And hopefully tomorrow we should see a little bit swell gracing our reefs and beaches.
Weather wise we started off with some early morning showers but by 7.00 the cloud was starting to brea k up for a 50/50 type day. But I tell ya’s it was damn hot where I was standing on the black sand.
The Rusty Rumble in the Jungle surfing contest were run over at Sanur Reef and the boys were lucky and scored some nice waves to finish off with. Made Awan was the man of the day surfing his way from round 1 right through to No.1. You can read the full report on the event on the ISC website or in the baliwaves.com Stories section.
Swell Forecast (16th May – 22nd May) Well the last week has produced some solid swell through out Ind onesia that’s for sure. From Sumbawa in the East to Sumatra to the West and Bali and G-Land in between. Next week we’ll still be doing plenty of surfing as well but in more moderate conditions. This current swell we still have showing today will continue to back off until our next little boost starts to appear around Sunday morning. Not quite as big as the last swell but it should still be producing some good waves on the Reefs through till Monday before starting to taper off. Then furth er out around Wednesday there’s another smaller system moving in on us that will be showing best on the more open south facing locations. So I hope your hear to enjoy it all !
Mentawai islands ; The good guys from the Kandui Surf Resort have sent us through another new batch of photos showing off more perfection in their part of Ind o. And you’ll be able to suss them out in the Surf Report section. Here’s another baliwaves bonus for ya’s dept; Anyday now we’ll also be providing ya’s with surf reports and photos from the Macaronis Surf Resort up in the Mentawai’s. I was talking to a couple of friends yesterday who have been out on charter in the Ments and they reckon if they ever make it back up there again they won’t be going on a boat after stopping off in the Surf Resorts. That’s where they’ll be heading. The Surf Resorts up there just make it all too easy for their guests with speed boats to zap you around all day and then back to the Resort for R & R in the evenings.
G-Land ; I had a pnone call from G-Land this morning and Raymond said to tell you guys and girls that he’ll give you 15% discount off the published price. Just click on his G-Land banner over in our banner advertisement section and drop him an email.
Changing dollars to Rupiah on the streets of Kuta and the Aussie dollar is just getting stronger and stronger, currently 1AU$=Rp8,700 while 1US$=Rp9,175.
