****AFTERNOON SURF UP-DATE**** Hello crew thanks for taking the time out to see whats happening surf and weather wise here on the happy little holiday island of Bali. Well I gotta say just about all the swell prediction websites predicting for this part of the World got it wrong. Well we did get the strong off-shore wind that’s usually associated with a big swell but no where near the swell that was predicted. Oh well, ya get that now and again I suppose.
Anyway there are still plenty of waves happening around Bali. My first surf check of the Outer Reefs here in Tuban was at 7.00am. Wave height between Kuta Reef and Airport Left was showing in the 2-4ft range. The first of our tides today was a 0.6mtr Low @ 7.00am and then we have a 2.3mtr High filling in around 1.30pm. The ESE-SE Tradewind kicked in early and has been howling off-shore upto 20knots at times.
Kuta Reef was looking pretty good when I went back down the the beach at 10.00am. With the tide rising there was some nice waves in the waist to head high range wrapping around the reef. But there was also a pretty thick crowd of surfers out there.
Second Reef also had some nice waves breaking, slightly bigger and slightly more consistent. Not as perfect as Kuta Reef but a good relieve from the crowd at KR.
Middle Reef was breaking best on the early morning Low tide. There was at least a dozen surfers in the water on my first surf check and wave height was in the head to head high plus class, 3-4ft.
Airport Left was producing so ok waves in the 2-3ft range but once again there was a solid crew in the water.
You woulda also been able to take a choice of plenty of other locations today with Bingin,
Impossible’s and the Racetrack at Uluwatu through the early morning Low tide. Then as the tide filled in Balangan and the Main Peak and Temple sections of Uluwatu woulda been doing their thing.
Weather wise today there’s been pretty well nothing but blue sky and sunshine for the beach lovers here on vacation so far. Our maximum tempereature today woulda have at least been around 32 degree’s Celsius. While the water temp has cooled down to around 20 degree’s Celsius.
Swell Forecast , well just off the top of my head I think wave height should keep increasing through out today and into tomorrow (Tuesday) and then we will still have some smaller waves yo-yoing up and down in size for a couple more days. But I’ll have an indepth look at whats happening later this afternoon and fill ya’s in on tomorrows surf report.
I’d just like to let everyone know about the “Coca-Cola for Bali coastal clean up day†being held at Legian beach 13th July 08 at 8.00am. For more information on this gath ering go to this link for the full run down. https://www.baliwaves.com/Content.aspx?Page=Stories&Section=Read&ID=43
Drop me a line if your interested in organizing your friends to get on board a 10mtr high powered ocean speed boat if you want to surf locations like Desert Pt, Scar Reef, Supersuck, Yo-Yo’s without having to wait days to get the their the old way. I’m thinking this type of trip is gunna be the New Way to hit Lombok and Sumbawa instead of the old 7 day slow boat system. Especially when it’s priced around the same range but doubling the amount of surf time ! These charters are only for private groups at this stage so organize your surfing buddies and get on board.
And just a reminder that we still have some baliwaves.com T-Shirts and stickers available for ya’s here in Bali so drop me a line.
Mentawai islands ; The good guys from the Kandui Surf Resort have sent us through another new batch of photos showing off more perfection in their part of Ind o. And you’ll be able to suss them out in the Surf Report section. Here’s another baliwaves bonus for ya’s dept; Anyday now we’ll also be providing ya’s with surf reports and photos from the Macaronis Surf Resort up in the Mentawai’s. I was talking to a couple of friends yesterday who have been out on charter in the Ments and they reckon if they ever make it back up there again they won’t be going on a boat after stopping off in the Surf Resorts. That’s where they’ll be heading. The Surf Resorts up there just make it all too easy for their guests with speed boats to zap you around all day and then back to the Resort for R & R in the evenings.
