****AFTERNOON SURF UP-DATE**** Hi folks and thanks for clling back by the baliwaves to see whats been happening since this mornings report. Well as ya’s can see Scotto was down at Uluwatu. He also swung by Padang Padang and snapped off a ew rounds of “the boat†that is still on the reef after yesterdays failed attemps to pull her off. As soon as I get this afternoons up-date done I’ll load the new images into our Readers Report page.
Dewa Made has also brought back some digital video from Padang Padang and I’ll start editing that up ASAP.
“Uluwatu was looking pretty goood today with some sets pushing 6ft in my opinion on the main peak. The tide was already a little high by the time I had arrived. There was around 30 people in the water spread between main peak and race track. But it was really the main peak that was producing the action as the tide pushed in. There was around 50 in the water by the time that I left at 11:15am.
The standout was Dede Suruyana in my opinion as he was getting plenty of barrels and taking the best of the waves. There was also a small crew out on the bombie and every now and then it would run through to the main peak. OK well thats how it was down there today and was probably looking better as I left but I have a few other appointments this afternoon to take care off. Till next time. Scottâ€
****MORNING SURF UP-DATE**** Howdy crew welcome back to the baliwaves.com for more surfing and weather info straight outta your favourite surfing holiday destination of Bali.
This morning I was up with the sparrows and down the beach for a 6.30am surf recon of the Outer Reefs. And I tell ya’s there’s no shortage of swell today. Wave height between Kuta Reef and Airport Left is easily pushing 3-5ft+. The first of the tides today is going to be a 2.4mtr High around 10.00am and then another reef exposing 0.2mtr Low through the later part of the afternoon. Wind direction was still a bit funky and all over the place earlier but basically we’ll be in for more off-shore ESE-SE wind as the morning progresses.
I’ve got it pretty easy today as Scotto is down the Bukit somewhere with is 600mm lens and Dewa Made is just about to hit the road for Padang Padang with the little 3CCD video camera to see whats happening down there. So that leaves me free to go and get a few out at Kuta Reef.
Kuta Reef is looking damn good this morning, wave height is in the head to almost double head high and the tide is on the way in. Likewise as the Tradewind kicks in it’s gunna be smoking. But… as we all know when the swell kicks in there’s some heavy traffic out there. This morning there were already something like 30 surfers out there by 7.00am.
Middle Reef was drawing in some solid 4-6ft set waves and there were a few riders out there trying to pick off the one’s that weren’t closing out.
Airport Left wasn’t getting as much swell as Kuta Reef and only breaking in the 2-3ft+ range and with a much longer wait between set waves. I’d say there’s gunna be some serious traffic out there as well as the tide pushing in further.
To see whats happening down on the southern end of the island ya’s will have to call back in later this afternoon and I’ll have some new photos and video clips to show ya’s.
Weather wise today there’s a bitta cloud over us at the moment, no chance of rain though and by midday we should be back to blue sky and sunshine for the beach lovers here in Bali.
Ok and here’s just a quick heads up on an up coming special even happening here in Bali on the 27th of July. Tom Curren will be playing live at the Hard Rock Café in Kuta along with a screening of Walking on Water surf movie. ALL FOR FREE !!!! So if your in town or going to be in town make sure ya get yourself down there ok.
Drop me a line if your interested in organizing your friends to get on board a 10mtr high powered ocean speed boat if you want to surf locations like Desert Pt, Scar Reef, Supersuck, Yo-Yo’s without having to wait days to get the their the old way. I’m thinking this type of trip is gunna be the New Way to hit Lombok and Sumbawa instead of the old 7 day slow boat system. Especially when it’s priced around the same range but doubling the amount of surf time ! These charters are only for private groups at this stage so organize your surfing buddies and get on board.
And just a reminder that we still have some baliwaves.com T-Shirts and stickers available for ya’s here in Bali so drop me a line.
Mentawai islands ; The good guys from the Kandui Surf Resort have sent us through another new batch of photos showing off more perfection in their part of Ind o. And you’ll be able to suss them out in the Surf Report section. Here’s another baliwaves bonus for ya’s dept; Anyday now we’ll also be providing ya’s with surf reports and photos from the Macaronis Surf Resort up in the Mentawai’s. I was talking to a couple of friends yesterday who have been out on charter in the Ments and they reckon if they ever make it back up there again they won’t be going on a boat after stopping off in the Surf Resorts. That’s where they’ll be heading. The Surf Resorts up there just make it all too easy for their guests with speed boats to zap you around all day and then back to the Resort for R & R in the evenings.
