****AFTERNOON SURF UP-DATE**** G’Day crew and thanks for stopping by the baliwaves.com for the daily run down on surf and weather conditions around Bali today.
Well this mornings surf check of the Outer Reefs here in Tuban was showing some nice waves breaking between Kuta Reef and Airport Left in the 3-5ft+ range. The first of our tides today was a 0.6mtr Low @ 6.00am followed up by a 2.4mtr High around midday before bottoming back out for a 0.1 mtr Low again around sun set time. Wind direction has been clean and true coming outta the ESE-SE @ 8-14knot in Tradewind fashion.
Kuta Reef was looking very tidy as the tide started it’s run back in with wave height rocking through in the shoulder to head high plus plus class. But once again another solid crew out there.
Middle Reef didn’t have any surfers in the water when I was on the scene and wave height was a solid double head high plus on the bigger set waves.
Airport Left was also pretty tidy as the tide filled in with wave height in the shoulder to head high plus range.
Padang Padang , well as ya’s can see in these current photos Scott took for us today Padang Padang was the place to be for the morning Low tide. “Expectaion this morning was for a kick in the swell, so I was getting prepared to head to Padang Padang. Two reasons I wonted to capture some of the magic that that this break offers and also check on the situation with the stranded boat. I did a quick check of the outreefs but they were still waking up and although thre was a definte increase in the swell I had expected a little more?
I arrived at Padang about 7:30am I watched a couple of sets unload on the reef and then make there way onto impossibles, Bingin, and into dreamland. Sets were pushing in around the 3-5ft mark, there was already a small crew getting some great lowtide shacks at Padang and more crew were stretched along impossibles getting some really long rides. I could also make out another strong crew on Bingin, it would have to have been going off at the perfect size of 3-4ft. I could also see up to Uluwatu and there was some big sets hitting up there but could not really make out much of a crowd on it. NOte it was a stretch to see that far up the reef to confirm this but it was definetly solid.
I hung around Padang Padang till around 10am and then decided that the tide was getting to high and pulled the pin. Earlier though there was a brief appearance by the man, Rizal Tanjung. I watched him dissapear behind one section and pretty much rode him off, till he came out through the curtain, sped into the next section, and just destroyed the lip. Also briefly appearing and standing out was “Bol” who was pulling in, and just being really stylish.
The boat has shifted again , now hard against the cliff and running adjacent to it. It has been tied off with some strong ropes so hopefully they hold her in place. Everynow and then you would get a wiff of left over fish that must be going off, inside the boat. Which for me was not a very pleasent experience at all. Its still in one piece though and we hope something can be done before it breaks up, and causes even more problems for everyone.
OK so that was my mornings activity, I’m ready to just take it a little easier this afternoon and get ready for what tomorrows swells and conditions are going to offer us. Till then. Scottâ€
Ok we’ve also got some new bodyboard photos to get loaded up later on for those interested. Plus another photo to add into the Readers Report Page that shows the new position of the reefed fishing boat.
Ok and here’s just a quick heads up on an up coming special even happening here in Bali on the 27th of July. Tom Curren will be playing live at the Hard Rock Café in Kuta along with a screening of Walking on Water surf movie. ALL FOR FREE !!!! So if your in town or going to be in town make sure ya get yourself down there ok.
Drop me a line if your interested in organizing your friends to get on board a 10mtr high powered ocean speed boat if you want to surf locations like Desert Pt, Scar Reef, Supersuck, Yo-Yo’s without having to wait days to get the their the old way. I’m thinking this type of trip is gunna be the New Way to hit Lombok and Sumbawa instead of the old 7 day slow boat system. Especially when it’s priced around the same range but doubling the amount of surf time ! These charters are only for private groups at this stage so organize your surfing buddies and get on board.
And just a reminder that we still have some baliwaves.com T-Shirts and stickers available for ya’s here in Bali so drop me a line.
Mentawai islands ; The good guys from the Kandui Surf Resort have sent us through another new batch of photos showing off more perfection in their part of Ind o. And you’ll be able to suss them out in the Surf Report section. Here’s another baliwaves bonus for ya’s dept; Anyday now we’ll also be providing ya’s with surf reports and photos from the Macaronis Surf Resort up in the Mentawai’s. I was talking to a couple of friends yesterday who have been out on charter in the Ments and they reckon if they ever make it back up there again they won’t be going on a boat after stopping off in the Surf Resorts. That’s where they’ll be heading. The Surf Resorts up there just make it all too easy for their guests with speed boats to zap you around all day and then back to the Resort for R & R in the evenings.
