****MORNING SURF UP-DATE**** Hello crew and thanks for dropping by the one and only original baliwaves.com for your daily dose of Bali surf and weather info straight outta your favourite surfing holiday destination and not second hand, so to speak.
Well firstly as I kinda figured yesterday the RipCurl Search event has been moved back to Uluwatu due to a significant drop in wave height this morning. Scott is down there on the scene at Uluwatu so we’ll have more news from down there through out the day. I also stuck a video camera into Scott’s back pack so hopefully he’ll have some footage as well as photos of day 2 when he gets back to Home Base.

Locally, I was down checking the situation on the Outer Reefs at 7.00am and like I mentioned wave height has dropped off quite a bit on yesterdays size. But it’s still cranking out there in the 3-5ft range between Kuta Reef and Airport Left. The first of our tides today is going to be a 2.2mtr High @ 9.00am and then we’ll see a partial reef exposing 0.4mtr Low around the 4.00pm mark. The ESE-SE Tradewind has kicked in early today and already blowing clean off-shore between Legian and Uluwatu @ 5-8knot.
Kuta Reef was breaking pert near perfectly in the 2-4ft+ range and peeling off for a good 80yrds. But as you would expect being in the middle of the “Peak Season†here in Bali the crowd level was already pushing 50 by 7.00am
Middle Reef still had solid double over head to double over head plus sized set waves breaking and there were at least a dozen surfers out there. Middle’s should improve around midday as the tide starts to run back out.
Airport left also had some solid 4ft set waves breaking hard out there with at least 30 surfers in the water.
Swell Forecast (29th July – 4th August) So as I mentioned already pretty small surf around for the remainder of today the 29th. But hold onto ya hats because starting tomorrow the 30th we should have some solid waves hitting our reefs that will hold through into the 31st then slightly dropping off a touch. Then right behind her we have another swell moving into position for the weekend before tapering off early next week. And then there’s even another smaller system behind that !
Weather wise here in Bali this morning we have a beauty coming on for the holiday crew with plenty of blue sky and sunshine. Expecting a top temperature in the 32 degree Celsius vicinity.
And just a reminder that we still have some baliwaves.com T-Shirts and FREE stickers available for ya’s here in Bali so drop me a line.
Mentawai islands ; The good guys from the Kandui Surf Resort have sent us through another new batch of photos showing off more perfection in their part of Ind o. And you’ll be able to suss them out in the Surf Report section. Here’s another baliwaves bonus for ya’s dept; Anyday now we’ll also be providing ya’s with surf reports and photos from the Macaronis Surf Resort up in the Mentawai’s. I was talking to a couple of friends yesterday who have been out on charter in the Ments and they reckon if they ever make it back up there again they won’t be going on a boat after stopping off in the Surf Resorts. That’s where they’ll be heading. The Surf Resorts up there just make it all too easy for their guests with speed boats to zap you around all day and then back to the Resort for R & R in the evenings.
