**** MORNING SURF UP-DATE **** Hello surfers and thanks for dropping into the baliwaves ! As you can see in these latest photographs taken at Uluwatu yesterday wave height on the set was a good solid 4 foot. There wasn’t a lotta surfers in the water, as I had expected to see, around 20 surfers sitting on the Main Peak section and around another half a dozen further up the reef at Temple’s. I didn’t even get down there until just after 10.00am as the tide was getting up towards the top. I was extremely lucky that local legend Ketut Pitur went out for a quick paddle so I could get some decent photos, otherwise it woulda been a long day, if ya know what I mean. Now here’s some refreshing news I was told about yesterday while I was down on location. I bumped into a surfer I met down at Ulu a few years ago and told me about what happened to him earlier in the morning, something this. “I finally had caught a good one from the inside and was dropped in on by a rather large American chap”. “Then at the end of the ride this guy started going off at me verbally with threats of violence” Let me tell ya’s this guy stands about 5’9″ and weighs around 65kg’s. “I was getting a bit scared with the way this guy was going off, when suddenly a local surfer who had an idea of what had just happened intervened”. To cut it short the American was told to go take an early shower / red card. The local surfer was Wayan Gobleg who surfs for Da Hui Indonesia. Good on ya Gobleg. I can assure you all, the local surfers don’t like that kinda behavior by visitors to their home break. Ok now this morning the last day of May my 6.30am surf recon of the Outer Reefs was showing another little boost in wave height. Kuta Reef wasn’t really an option with the tide at the bottom of the Low but there was still the odd 3 footer coming through. Middle Reef was breaking very nicely at 2-4ft+ and there were a couple of surfers just getting out there. Airport Lefts was pretty consistent at 2-4ft and I’m thinking that when the tide pushes in a bit around the other side of the airport runway Airport Rights might be a pretty good bet. The next tide is going to be a 2.5 mtr High @ midday then a Low of 0.1 @ sunset. Earlier wind direction was coming outta the NW @ 0-2knot but will hopefully swing around to the ESE by mid morning. A beautiful day weather wise outside, with a nice shade of “sky blue” upstairs. Another warm to hot day temperature wise and the mercury will push up into the low 30’s Celcius, water temp is sitting around 21 degree’s Celcius. Ok crew, it’s all systems go over here in Bali. I’m going surfin. Tune in later this afternoon and I’ll tell ya how good it was ! Best Regards from the No.1 surf trip holiday island.
A little while back I mentioned something about baliwaves.com wanting to help out with a charity organisation carring for Balinese Orphans , by finding kind hearted folks to sponsor kids for their basic schooling needs.
