BALI / INDONESIA
18th – 19th February 2020
Hello surfers (KEEP READING BELOW) and lovers of Bali and thanks again for stopping by the baliwaves (Bringing you all the good things from Bali since back in 1999) for our latest news and best possible views on surfing and weather conditions here on the island of the Gods, and the No.1 tropical surfing holiday destination and gateway to Indonesia’s surfing paradise, Bali.
Ok well yesterday the 18th and wave height was pretty small right across the board here in Bali. Even the reports in from our swell magnet location of Balian was calling only 1-3ft with murky colored water, no thanks. So I stayed home and did normal people stuff like sharpened my curved machete and manicured the lawn with it haha.
But we knew that today the 19th (SELAMAT HARI RAYA GALUNGAN DAN KUNINGAN BALI) would deliver us some temporary relief, and that it did, if you knew where to look. As it shows in today’s half century strong gallery the conditions lined up for a couple of hours, delivering some very cylindrical shaped waves over on the East side of town. The wind was fresh off shore thanks to the North Wester holding through until 10.20am when it started to swing W-WSW.
Pretty heavy traffic heading towards Karangasem way this morning with lots of Balinese folk heading home to offer their prayers for this very special day on the Balinese Hindu calendar. Tomorrow is also another public holiday here and expect the traffic to be heavy and slow again but in the South bound direction, patience and courtesy needed.
Weather wise it’s been a kinda 50/50 day but when the sun was out early it was good. Right now at 3.10pm it’s still 50/50 but the wind is now blowing hard out of the W-WSW.
Tomorrows Surf Forecast is calling similar sized waves, maybe just a touch smaller (the period also reflects it) and dropping. Expect that N-NW wind early before it dedicates to the W-WSW by mid morning.
Just a quick heads up on the Corona Virus if anyone is wondering if it’s safe here in Bali. Well I can tell you that as far as tourists from China go I have barely seen any Chinamen here in Bali for weeks. I personally think the Indonesian Gov has done a great job keeping everyone safe. If you are planning on coming over, and please do. Remember, “Charlie dont surf” But just to be on the safe side wear a face mask through any international airport and keep a small bottle of hand sanitizer in your pocket.
