BALI SURF & WEATHER REPORT
4th – 5th July 2020
Firstly we do know from first hand experience how tough it is here in Bali with absolutely no support other than friends and family. We would also like to offer a free promotional service to any other small outfits / businesses that are surf related here in Indonesia and Australia. So in turn we have told all our sponsors that we will be waving any fee’s until things are getting back to normal again. Please contact us to see if your eligible for free promotion on baliwaves. Special thanks to our good friends that have kicked in some dollars to help my family and I keep food on our table, lights on and baliwaves.com being able to help keep you in the loop. If you can spare us a couple of bucks we would not be able to thank you enough !!
baliwaves.com is happy to be able to give our friends at JOWA SURF a little love with some promo on us. As we mention above times are tough and we are here to help any small local business with a little more awareness through baliwaves.com
Hello Bali people and thanks for dropping into the baliwaves, keeping surf reports real since back in 1999. Yesterday the 4th and I thought I’d take a run back down to another of my favorite surf locations of Balangan. I hadn’t been down there since early this year before the Bali Corona Virus kicked in and I was missing my friends down at Warung Hendra. I had phoned through a couple of weeks back and was told that Balangan was open to the public and that there was plenty of stranded Europeans hanging out down there.
But I did get a bit of a surprise when I saw just how many “stranded surfers” there were out in the water. On a rough head count while there was still some tide left I stopped counting at 70. Wave height was pretty learner friendly I guess and that’s what the vast majority of *surfers in the water were. Waist to head high waves with a very few and far between slightly over head set wave. It was a bit of a free for all and a little kaotik but it looked like everyone was out there having fun.
Surfing conditions were clean and tidy, even though the ESE Trade wind was blowing hard with gusts up to 20knot. Balangan was a little more protected with the cliffs as a buffer from the wind.
Yesterday was my first trip / drive down to the bukit in months and was also surprised to see just how much traffic was on the road, it was busy and almost as busy as pre Corona Virus. The road into Balangan off the main road in my opinion is also one of the most dangerous roads in Bali. Why, because it is very narrow and barely wide enough for 2 cars to pass, in some sections can’t. With blind corner after blind corner, non stop water tanker trucks hauling ass trying to deliver as much water as they can everyday. Then throw in the most dangerous animal on the road.. foreigners on motorbikes with little to none common sense. So if your heading down to Balangan please take extra care on that road.
Today’s also has half a dozen photos from Uluwatu sent through to us from our friends at the SwellBali Hotel located down on the beach at Bingin
Today the 5th and wave height here on the Outer Reefs of Tuban was still only showing smallish waves breaking in the waist to head high range, with maybe a slightly bigger one hitting Middle Reef. The wind was light and variable early but now at 10.15am the ESE Trade wind is starting to kick in and already hitting gusts in the 8-12knot plus range. Probably a few choice beach breaks to choose from up along the Kuta to Legian stretch as well while the wind was lightish.
Tomorrow the 6th if we are lucky we might get a small bump in wave height if not on the 7th and then around the 9th a slow but steady rise in energy until the mother load arrives
Our Swell Forecast is still showing a fiesta of swell for Bali and pretty well all of Indonesia over the coming week. Pretty much back to back medium sized swell for East Java, Bali and the NTB is our call. Then on or very close to the 11th we will be seeing our big wave riders chasing some rhino’s on their guns. If the patterns stay on track the Outside Corner and Padang Padang will be lighting up like Christmas tree’s. Even further out there is still more swell in transit so make sure you stay tuned right here to the original Bali surf report.
Today here in Bali we have a Full Moon rising tonight and if you were down at the beach early you may have noticed quite a lot of Balinese making small offerings (canang) of flowers and incense. Before taking a body and soul cleansing dip in the ocean, this day is also known as “Banyu Pinaroh” on the Balinese Hindu calendar.
On the Bali Corona Virus situation we still don’t seem to have it under control here in Bali or across the nation for that matter. The reported official numbers are still continuing in an up ward trend. Low testing numbers would also be keeping the actual number much lower than what it probably is. Here in Bali we have no numbers on testing at all and it would seem that the majority of tests are done on people entering or leaving the island, or those in already known area’s of positive cases. So only God know’s how long before we can start a “new normal” here on the Island of the Gods.
ATTENTION DEPARTMENT, On the Bali Aid cause our good friend Nicole Polley is organizing a worthy fundraiser that is targeting the needy. A great way for friends with friends here in Bali to lend a hand. Take a look at what Nicole and her friends are doing and maybe there is some one you know here in Bali that needs your help, The real reality of it is, if you know someone here in Bali through being on holiday then those people are battling to keep food on the table and the house lights on. Please if you can drop a couple of bucks into Nicole’s account. Nicole is helping a lot of people at ground level, I know personally as my family received a basic food relief package as well.
