BALI SURF & WEATHER REPORT
24th – 25th April 2021
Hello to all our Bali people tuning into the baliwaves “the original Bali surf report website since back in 1999” Not a lot has been happening surf wise here on the holiday island over the last few days with only microscopic waves along both sides of the island. But yesterday the 24th we did start to see a small predicted bump in wave height. So we did have our hopes up to see some decent size and quality this morning the 25th. So as we all know if your looking for better size and quality it’s Uluwatu, hands down.
Ray and I decided to spend out Sunday morning down on the southern end of the island at Bali’s premier location of Uluwatu. Arriving to a semi full (bottom) car park and wave height hitting the Main Peak in the 3-5ft class, head to double head high. Even though the line up was a little un organized and maybe you could even say a little crowded there was only a couple of stand out surfers out there. Lot’s of pull backs and riders getting pitched, but with International travel bans and restrictions globally it’s our European friends turn to own pretty much all the breaks in Bali, just with sheer numbers.
This morning there were some nice lines rolling into Uluwatu. Temple’s was offering some long rides with 4 foot set waves running off for up to 100mtrs plus. The Main peak was getting the most waves with the tide just passed through the top of the High. 30-40 surfers were on the Peak while up at Temple’s there was another 10-15 surfers. Hopefully we got some decent video footage this morning so keep your eye’s open for a fresh video clip next week.
Last week with sub standard swell hitting Bali my friend and I were out fishing trying to feed our families and make enough money to pay the bills. As it was even after spending from sun up till sun down on a couple of days we were not lucky, but did manage to bring home a few smaller fish for food. On the 1 day that I took off my mate Nyoman did get lucky and boated a nice 16kg Spaniard and even though I didn’t get a share of the sale I was still stoked that Nyoman got some money to help look after his wife and 5 children.
Weather wise today the hot and dry weather conditions continue with no rain falling the last week. Today Sunday the 25th it’s been clear hot and sunny. Right now at 1.45pm the temperature is sitting on 30 degree’s Celsius, Humidity level is at 67%. The wind earlier was swinging from ESE to SE, right now it is tending more SSE-SE with gusts up to 15knot plus.
The next tide today in Bali will be a 0.4mtr Low at 3.07pm. We will also have a Full Moon rising tomorrow the 26th so we will have some big tidal differences for a few days to follow.
Tomorrows Surf Forecast is calling for wave height to continue to build but with the wave “period” to decrease. So I guess we will have to wait and see. The wind is predicted to be light off shore out of the ENE early before strengthening out of the ESE-SE and blustery by midday.
Changing dollars to Rupiah, it’s almost ironic with the Australian dollar at almost an all time high of over Rp11,000 and no Australian dollars being circulated.
I’ve also been sent another surf report from our travelling surf writer Ben from Lakey peak on the island of Sumbawa and will get that up for you first thing tomorrow morning.
I don’t know if most of you are still aware that Bali is really still hurting, most of Bali anyway. I guess you could say there are a couple of area’s around Canggu and down on the bukit that are cashing in from the European explosion. I also heard from a friend who took a trip up to Balian hoping to score a few waves through our flat spell. He couldn’t believe that there were so many surfers up at Balian as well. My family and I have a small guest house that mostly serves to Aussies and there hasn’t been any real Aussie visitors here on holiday since last Jan 2020. We are not alone of course, especially if any of you have watched the last video clip I posted with footage from Kuta and Legian.
Last year there was lots of people organizing relief with financial and food package relief but that seems to have just about stopped. So if you know people here in Bali please drop them a line and check to see if they are ok. There are a lot of desperation and depression happening around the island. Likewise if any of our friends can spare a dollar or two to help my Family it would be greatly appreciated, thanks (please hit this link to help out).
On the Bali Corona Virus scene there has been a lot of vaccinations happening this month which is a good positive step forward for Bali and it’s population. Unfortunately what I’m seeing is a lot more people forgetting, dropping the main protocols of social distancing and mask wearing. If India is a model for over confidence I think Indonesia needs to be extra careful to not see a second wave or sickness coming here.
Ok that’s it for me today, I’ve already missed lunch today, but missing meals has become almost normal for my wife and I lately. Thanks for dropping in, stay tuned here and to our Facebook and Instagram accounts for more news and up dates.
