BALI SURF & WEATHER REPORT
25th – 26th June 2021
Hello Bali people and thanks for stopping by the baliwaves (the original Bali surf report website since 1999, for surfers by surfers) We hope everyone is doing the best they can in order to get this crazy World back on track and life and lifes back to where they were before this pandemic began. I’m sure you all know that Bali’s most well know area’s namely Kuta / Legian are still like ghost towns with most doors closed and way too many for sale / rent signs on display.
Here in Tuban just to the South of Kuta is also barren of tourism and also doing it very tough. Usually all the guest house and Home stay’s are all doing well. But the last year and a half they are all empty, including our place. If any of our friends out there can spare us a dollar it would shore make a big difference for my family. If you can please click this link to get to our PayPal link or contact us directly, Thank You.
Alright well not a lot has been happening here in Bali surf wise the last couple of days. To say the least wave height here along the West Coast has been at best head high, not your standard World class Bali waves that we are used to seeing. I’ve included a couple of photos our man Dewa down at Uluwatu sent through yesterday the 25th. With the Full moon that rose on the 24th we have been seeing some big fat tidal ranges through the morning High’s, today the 26 was no different.
This morning I did a mercy dash up to Canggu to just grab a few photos and give you a look at what we really have through our 600mm lens. Surprisingly light Saturday morning traffic through Canggu, I guess most visitors were still sleeping it off up there. I arrived just after 8am as the tide was about half way up and on the make. Wave height was on average shoulder high with a couple of head high freak sets. I also saw one (just one) wave that was a couple of feet over head. I was shooting from right on the water line and wet feet, so that always makes the waves look a little bigger and closer.
There were around 35+ surfers splashing about on the Sandbar section and it looked fun to me, but I reckon the grommets in the water would have had their optimum stoke on. While the right hander on the Pererenan river mouth had 6 man heats in the water with what I heard over their PA system as an under 10 “push in” event. Now I always pictured 8 – 9yr olds being pushed into foamies by the Dad’s on the beach somewhere. But these young hot shots were getting pushed into (not that they needed to be pushed in) well over head (for your average 8yr old) set waves on the River mouth and riding them right to the end close out section. Next generation rBali rippers for sure in the making.
But after an hour of shooting photos the tide just poured in to quickly and before I knew it the waves were just a fat mess on the Sandbar with the ESE cross / on shore Trade wind kicking in it didn’t help it either. So I made tracks back to the car park before I was cut off by the tide.
Weather wise today it’s been a nice sunny change after the last 2 days of on again off again rain. Right now here in Tuban at 2.30pm the temperature is a warm 30 degree’s Celsius and the Humidity is at 78%. Wind direction is E-ESE at 21km/h. Also just to bring any new viewers up to date on seasons here in Bali. Bali is positioned globally around 8 degree’s South of the Equator so that puts us in the first month of Winter. Actually believe it or not the local boys will all be surfing in wetsuits (those that have them anyway) very soon. Beenies and jackets will be common early morning garb for my morning surf checks as well.
The next tide today in Bali will be a 0.0mtr dry reef exposing Low at 5.20pm
Tomorrow’s Surf Forecast is looking like wav eheight is going to keep dropping out with light variable wind before the Tradewind starts to kick in around mid morning.
Further out, Longe Range Surf Forecast we might get a little bump in wave height on the 28-29th and then if the patterns hold true a nice swell on the 1st of July.
On the Bali Corona Virus situation things have taken a turn for the worse. Today’s number of new cases here went over 180 and almost 19,000 nationally. Yesterday saw an all time record number of new cases nationally with over 20,000 across Indonesia. All Bali’s borders are still open to domestic traffic, I think the logistics to lock down any island in Bali would be just a nightmare for those in charge. But here in Bali the vaccination push is on and the minister of health has dropped all previous Id requirements and now anyone (over 18yrs) can readily get their vaccination started. I did see a lot of what, where and how type of projectioning on Vaccine Passports (Facebook) going on but to me and many more the goal right now is to get as many people in Bali and right across Indonesia vaccinated first.
Life here in Tuban / Kuta is still hard and no change over the last 18 months. So we have decided to try and generate a little income by offering some original baliwaves printed tee shirts smaller size S-L-M the price is 9 dollars AUD and size XL-XXL the price is 12 dollars AUD. Follow this link to find out to get yours.

Really awesome seeing the next gen of Bali rippers out there, thanks Slim! Nice hearing about groms being ‘pushed in’ for a change hahah.
Also really good hearing the Big Push is on for the vaccine in Bali. Praying it makes the difference for the locals!
