Ok well it’s all happening here in Indonesia in the surfing department so far this week. The small crew of G-Land surfers have been getting more kegs than a brewery. That’s according to a friend who just returned to Bali yesterday morning from doing a nice little 18 day stay at Joyo’s G-Land Surf Camp. So it was great to sit down with a sunset beer on the beach with Sarge and hear a few stories from the jungle. Also thanks to the boys at Joyo’s for sending us these 3 photos from the “Speed Reef” barrel section.
Sarge had come out of camp for a break and a little self indulgence on Bali (only an 1.5hr boat ride away from G-Land). He also said that he wasn’t the only one coming out of camp and that the whole place (4 camps) was just about empty. With 3 decent swells hitting G-Land over the last 3 weeks I guess the boys needed a break. Or I’m thinking adventuring to other well know locations around Indo maybe. Sarge also mentioned that there had been a lot of injuries while he was in camp. With the worst being 1 soldier who needed 46 stitches to his head. Apparently he was also wearing a Gath hat, lucky for him. Also lucky that there is always an “in camp” Docker to for first aid.
Sarge said he is taking 5-6 days off to recuperate and then will be heading back over to Joyo’s for another 2-3 week tour.
Yesterday afternoon’s surf n sunset beer check was not showing much sign of a new swell with 2-4ft waves breaking between Kuta reef and Airport left. But the wave models were saying that this new system was tracking to arrive through the early hours of today. That’s exactly how it has paned out. Our 6.30am surf check on the Outer reefs of South Kuta had 3-5ft+ waves breaking between Kuta reef and Airport Left. The tide was still running out and the wind was just starting to come out of the ESE.
The ocean just had that “energised” look about it this morning and even a few waves were starting to break out in the middle of the Kuta / Legian bay, known as “Karang Tengah”. The forecasted wave models were calling wave height to keep building another foot or two through out the morning. By the time we got back home we had the news that the RipCurl Padang Padang Cup was on and going to be run today.
Nb Late this afternoon it really will be on at Padang Padang with a dry reef exposing of 0.4mtrs at 7.51PM. Around. This swell should also be at it’s peak around 3-4.00PM.
Ketut has sent us through a few photos off his phone before he put his head down into the video view finder for the day. So we will have tonnes of sick video footage to cut and edit for you very soon.
Weather wise today here in Bali we have a mostly blue sky and right now at 10.00am the temperature is a warm 27 and heading to 30C. Humidity level is at 80% and the wind is a clean ESE at 10-12knot.
Tide wise in Bali today the first Low was 0.8mtrs at 745am and the next High will be a 2.0 at 1.29pm
Ok have a great day and you can watch the RipCurl Pang Padang Cup live right now on this link
