Hello everyone and welcome back to the baliwaves for our latest run down on surfing and weather conditions here on the World’s No.1 tropical surfing holiday destination, Bali. On well we have had a bit of a break from the strong wind and it looks like we are going to continue to see some better weather over today and into tomorrow. Before a return to the fresh W-SW wind again early next week.
But anyway, yesterday the 9th I was stuck in a rut watching the WSL Pipe Masters event being run in way below Pipeline standards. Until I gave myself a slap across the lugs and got off my butt and headed over to the East Coast to hopefully find some 1-3 footers.. After battling some heavy traffic through the Serangan to Sanur leg I finally arrived to find some on shore but bun looking waist to head high waves on the Keramas main break. There may have been a couple of bigger freak sets and a few better and a way less crowded waves down at the Colonels down the beach a bit.
Wind direction was already out of the South but still fairly light around the 3-5knt class. I did count over 30 surfers in the water and I could see plenty of smiles on dials through the camera lens. Quite a few near misses (collisions) but at the end of the session I think there was no harm done.
I did manage to work a little magic with the camera and it really does make the waves appear to look a lot better and bigger than hat it actually was.
This morning the 10th and my 8.00am surf check on the Outer Reefs here in Tuban / South Kuta was showing a drop in wave height from yesterday. Wave height between Kuta reef and Airport Left was only showing in the knee to waist high plus region. The tide was running in for a solid 2.3mtr High scheduled to peak at 12.43pm. While the wind was light out of the NNW at 1-3knt.
Weather wise today it’s not that bad a looking day so far. After last nights heavy rain with thunder and lightning show included. Today we have what I’d call fair weather, with light and thin high cloud cover. Right now at 12.30pm the temperature is a warm 30C and humidity is at 81%. The wind here at home 400mtrs back from the beach is to me out of the WNW at 2-4knt. We might even get another afternoon glass off like late yesterday.
Tomorrow’s swell forecast is predicting wave height to be tapering off in the downward direction through tomorrow with more light and variable wind predicted.
Long Range forecast has some fresh swell / waves arriving in Bali around the 114th and should hopefully hang around for at least 4-5 days.
Travel Tip #301. Money part 1, firstly we all know “cash is king” so if your bringing cash over you’re still at the mercy of the “money changers” and what rate they think is best. Their rate is always less than the International rate. That’s how they make their money off you right. So if you are changing money make sure you “ask google” what today’s exchange rate is (your currency to Indonesian Rupiah). Then you can always bargain a little bit with the money exchangers to get a better than advertised exchange rate. For God’ sake do not go anywhere near the little sly looking money exchangers always use the big outlets or you will get ripped off. More on money next report.
