East Coast Surf Report – Tuesday 4th August 2026
Ketut was back over on the East Coast early this morning and found wave height sitting around the 3 foot mark with a few bigger ones coming through on the better sets. The wind was offshore right through the early part of the morning which kept everything clean and tidy across the reef. Crowd wise it was about as quiet as it gets over there, with only 6 surfers out the whole time Ketut was watching, so anyone who paddled out had plenty of waves to pick from.
Ketut mentioned the better waves came through once the water started to fill in a bit. Early on it was shallow over the reef and the waves were standing up quick, but as the morning went on they were lining up nicer and running a little further along. A few of the bigger ones had some real push behind them and were breaking with a bit of shape, which is what you would expect off the longer period swell sitting out there at the moment. The wind stayed light and offshore the whole time so nothing got bumpy, and with hardly anyone out the wave count was as good as it looks in today’s photos.
Weather & Tides
Out there today it started off cloudy through the early morning before the sun came through around 10am, and right now it’s sitting around 25C. The tide was near the bottom of the low first thing this morning which left the reef a bit shallow early, then it began filling in through the rest of the morning and that is when Ketut said the waves started lining up better. The next low is due around 7:20 this evening with the following high just before 2am, then it drains back to another low around 7:50 tomorrow morning before pushing back over the reef through the middle of the day.
Surf Forecast
Looking ahead there is a bit more size on the way. Wednesday should see it come up into the 4 to 5 foot range on a slightly longer period, then Thursday and Friday are both looking like 5 to 6 foot with the period stretching out further again, so there should be plenty of waves getting through on the East Coast reefs. Winds are a bit variable over the next few days so early mornings will still be the best call before any local wind builds. Have a look at the swell forecast for the full picture.
