East Coast Surf Report – Saturday 8th August 2026
Ketut was back over on the East Coast early this morning and reported wave height sitting in the 4 to 5 foot range with a few bigger sets pushing through on top of that. Wind was offshore right through the check which kept the faces clean and tidy, although the sky was not playing along with rain about early and everything staying dark and cloudy until around 10am. Crowd wise there were about 25 surfers out, so a bit busier than you would expect for a grey morning.
Ketut mentioned the surf held its shape well despite the poor light. The longer range swell had the sets arriving in bunches with quiet patches in between, so sitting and waiting paid off more than chasing peaks around. As the tide drained off the early high the waves stood up a bit more across the reef and there were some decent ones lining up.
Weather & Tides
Right now it is sitting around 21C with rain about first thing and cloudy skies hanging around until mid morning before it started to clear. Tide wise today we had the high at 7:19am which put plenty of water over the reef for the early crew, before it drained away to the low at 2:59pm. The next high is due around 9:40pm, so the rest of the afternoon will be running off the shallower end of the tide.
Surf Forecast
Looking ahead there is a fair bit of size on the way. Monday should jump into the 6 to 8 foot range with a long 16 second swell behind it, and Tuesday looks like holding at that same 6 to 8 foot mark before Wednesday eases back to 5 to 6 foot. Winds are looking variable across those few days so the early mornings will be the safest call before any local wind builds. Worth a look at the swell forecast for the full picture.
