East Coast Surf Report – Sunday & Monday 16,17th August 2026
Ketut was back over on the East Coast again the last two mornings, and wave height was sitting around 4-6 foot on the better sets. Winds were offshore right through the early hours which kept everything clean and tidy across the reef. Crowd wise there were only about 15 people out, so there was plenty of room to spread out and pick off waves without any fuss.
Ketut mentioned it was a bit cloudy first thing before the sun came through around 9am and warmed things up. The tide was still low early which left the reef on the shallow side, then once the water started filling in through mid morning the waves lined up better across the bank. The wind stayed light the whole time so nothing got bumpy, and with so few surfers out the wave count stayed high. Swell was coming from the south west with a longer period behind it, around 13 seconds, so there was a bit of push in the bigger ones.
Weather & Tides
Right now it’s sitting around 23C with light winds about and a mix of cloud and sun through the middle of the day. On the tides today we had the low at 7:22am which is why the reef was skinny early, then the high filled in around 1:26pm before draining back to another low at 7:08pm. That afternoon push should keep enough water over the reef for anyone heading out for a later look.
Surf Forecast
Looking ahead there is more size on the way. Tuesday should be running 4 to 6 foot with a long period behind it, then Wednesday picks up again to the 6 to 7 foot mark and Thursday looks like holding around that same size. Early mornings will be the pick before the local wind builds through the afternoon, and there is more detail on the swell forecast page if you want the full picture.
