East Coast Surf Report – Wednesday 9th September 2026
Ketut was back over on the East Coast early this morning and reported a decent bit of swell running, with wave height sitting in the 2 to 5 foot range and the bigger sets coming through with a bit of push behind them. The wind was offshore first up and stayed that way until around 9am, which kept the faces clean and tidy through the early part of the morning. Crowd wise there were only around 6 surfers out at the spot he checked, so there were plenty of waves to go around for anyone who made the effort to get there early.
Ketut mentioned it was a bit cloudy over that side, nothing heavy, just grey overhead for most of the check. The swell had a long gap between sets, around 14 to 15 seconds, so it paid to sit and wait rather than chase everything that moved. Once the clock ticked past 9am the offshore started to drop out and the surface lost some of that early tidiness, though with only a handful of surfers out the wave count stayed high right through. The water filling in through the early morning gave the bigger sets a bit more depth to work with and helped them line up across the bank instead of standing up and shutting down.
Weather & Tides
Right now it is sitting around 24C with the water a touch warmer at around 26C, and cloudy skies about for most of the day, so nothing too hot out there. On the tides today, the water was filling in through the early morning before draining back off through the afternoon. The next high is due around 9:50 tonight, then it drains away again to a low near 3:20am, with tomorrow morning’s high due around 9:40am and the low back around 4pm. That mid morning high tomorrow should leave enough water over the reef for the early surfers.
Surf Forecast
Looking ahead there is still plenty of swell in the water. Thursday should hold around 5 foot with the same long gap between the sets, then Friday sits in the 4 to 5 foot range before it starts easing back to around 4 foot on Saturday. Winds look variable over the next few days, so the early mornings are still the best call before any local wind gets going. Have a look at the swell forecast for the full picture.
