13th December 2011
Hi folks and welcome back to the baliwaves (’99) for the latest news on today’s surfing and weather conditions from right here on the No.1 tropical surfing holiday destination of Bali.
Starting off our day with a 7.30AM surf check on the Outer Reefs here in Tuban to find wave height had increased into the waist to head high plus range between Kuta Reef and Airport Left. At the time surfing conditions were reasonably clean with a light Northerly breeze of 2-4knot. There were in fact surfers out riding some waist to chest high waves on Kuta Reef and a few others sitting on Middle Reef.
But with the charts showing our new swell coming more from the SSW we knew there would be more size and cleaner surfing conditions over on Bali’s East coast at Serangan, just a 25 minute drive from Tuban. So off we went, and a good call finding that the wind had swung more to the WSW by 8.30AM. At first wave height was a consistent chest to head high plus, but within the hour we had sets in the double to double head high plus sector. Probably close to 30 surfers spread across the main surfing arena with both left and right handers on offer. It was at 10.30AM that the wind turned more towards the South that we packed up and headed back to home base to escape the midday heat.
Tidal info for today had us down for a 0.1mtr reef exposing low @ 6.00AM, filling back up with a 2.0mtr high @ 12.00noon. Then finishing off today with another 0.6mtr low around 6.00PM.
Weather wise today there’s been nothing but blue sky and a sizzling midday temperature of at least 35 degree’s Celsius. Right now @ 3.00PM the temp is still a warm 30 degree’s Celsius (as it should be in the Summer time right) with the wind turning a little more back to the W-WSW quadrant @ 7-10knot. Sunrise was @ 5.54AM and will set @ 6.31PM. With more thunderstorms predicted for later this evening.
Ok more swell predicted again for the next couple of days and we’ll be out there chasing up the best that Bali has on offer. So don’t stray too far from the original Bali surf report, baliwaves.com
