MORNING SURF UP-DATE **** Good morning surfers, thanks for dropping in. An it’s certainly shaping up for another good one down at the beach. I went down for a surf check of the Outer Reefs at 7.00am and I’d have to say that wave height has had a slight boost on yesterday’s size. Kuta Reef had some infrequent waist to shoulder high wave’s peeling but lookin shallow, being just a bit too close to the bottom of the Low tide. Middle Reef was breaking pert near perfectly at 2-4ft (waist to over head high), and there was around 8-10 surfers already on it. Airport Left had 2-2ft+ waves but like KR was also suffering from a lack of water over the reef. First up the wind was just detectible coming outta the North @ 0-.5knot but has since swung around to the East @ 1-3knot and off-shore along Bali ’s West Coastal surfing playground. Needless to say there’d be waves breaking at Bingin , Balangan and Impossible’s and of course Uluwatu would be producing plenty of options, all day long. Blue sky, light off-shore wind, along with the tide just starting it’s run back in on a 2-5ft swell. Heading for a tropical temperature of around 32 degree’s Celsius outta the shade and 24 degree’s in the water. I’m gunna be editing yesterday’s video footage as soon as this reports on-line for ya’s so if ya get the time make sure you take a flick through the video section and find those dated the 22nd of April. That’s the basis of it so far, have a good one and try and get a bit of work done before the video show this afternoon. Cheers !
Lakey Peak on the island of Sumbawa ; Just like clock work Made sms’d through his 7.00am up-date on surf and weather conditions across at Lakey Peak . And just as it has here, wave height has increased to 3-4ft+ for the 18 surfers that were already out on The Peak. No surfers across on The Pipe but I’m sure there would be by now at 9.00am. Surfing conditions were clean and glassy, and as they should be at this time of the year. The total number of visiting surfers staying at lakey’s remains at 80, including some high profile surfing VIP’s I’m told.
Kandui Surf Resort / Mentawai islands 22nd April ’07 ; Winds were out of the northwest this morning and the swell was a little smaller. Our first boat left for Nipusi, hoping there was more north than west in that wind. Conditions ended up being pretty nice over there and the surf was clocking in at 2 feet overhead or so on the good sets. The winds did a sudden about face around mid morning and started blowing from the southeast so the guys cut their session short and headed back for some lunch. Our second boat took off at lunchtime. We took our hamburgers to go and went to Beng Beng, trying to take advantage of the low tide and favorable southeast winds blowing at the time for that spot. The waves were a little on the small side, about chest to shoulder high, but it was fun and there was nobody out. We were not far into our surf session though, when the wind did another about face and started blowing out of the northwest again! Errrrrrrr. We pulled anchor and went back to Nipusi where it had turned offshore and was still overhead. We met up with our third boat there and some stayed with that boat to surf Nipusi while the others left on our boat to go back and surf 4 Bobs. Both groups had a lot of fun because the wind got really light and conditions were epic at both spots later in the afternoon. Looking for some signs of a new swell starting so show tomorrow.
