MORNING SURF UP-DATE **** G’Day to all you surfers goofing off out there, tuning into the baliwaves.com for the latest news on Bali ’s surf and weather conditions today. And we got some good news for ya’s, especially if you’ve just arrived in Indo. I went down for the surf recon at 6.30am to find that wave height was on the move, breaking in the 2-4ft class on the Outer Reefs here in Tuban . The tide was about as low as it is gunna get today, but seeing as though we are dead smack in the middle of the Moon Phase (Full / New) there’s hardly any range between the high and the low. There were 2 surfers in the water at Kuta Reef with wave height in the waist to head high range. The set waves were actually looking like good fun peeling off for around 70yrds. Middle Reef was by looking the best bet for a paddle outta the big 3. Wave height on Middle’s was more like 3-4ft and better suited to the lower end of the tide. There was something like half a dozen surfers in the water. Airport Lefts was also picking up the odd 3-4 footer when the sets rolled through, and as usual there were a few reef taxi’s parked in the channel. The wind has been blowing hard outta the ESE-SE @ 7-12knot since sun up, strong off-shore wind from Legian all the way down to Uluwatu. You’d also find some nice waves happening at Balangan , even Bingin might be worth a look early, and of course Uluwatu would have to be breaking in the 3-5ft range*. Weather wise here in Tuban we’ve got blue sky and sunshine, but looking North towards Denpasar (20kms) there’s some solid banks of cloud and likewise South down towards Ulu there’s also some cloud hanging about. Temperature wise we are going to be in for another hot one around the 30 degree Celsius mark. The water temp is perfect for a swim or surf sitting around 23-24 degree’s Celsius. Yesterday seeing as though the surf was pretty small I loaded another batch of photos from Kuta Reef and I also managed to load 3 NEW VIDEO CLIPS from the same day (the video footage was courtesy of “the surf video guy”). So make sure ya’s scroll through the 128 vid’s on baliwaves.com until you get to em. I also want to say Thank You to Rob & Joanne Ortenzo from the USA for their continued support with the running of baliwaves.com, thanks guys ! On the contest scene I think Canggu is the venue for today, but there’s been so many going down lately it’s hard to keep track of em all. Ok friends of Bali stay tuned to us cause I think we’ve got plans to hit Uluwatu tomorrow with local Quicksilver Ripster Devis Ratif to get ya’s some more action to help inspire and fuel your day dreams of Indo . Have a good one where eva you are and I’ll check ya’s later. Our man Pierre has also loaded another surf report from his travels along with a few photos included so check out his Readers Report for that. Plus the lads from the Kandui Surf Resort up in the Menatawai island chain have got more on their Mentawai islands report page. The good guys at www.ihfonline.org who have been running the Balinese Orphan Schooling Program are in serious need of financial help to keep their operation above water, so please if anyone can help these fantastic people please drop them a line. We want you guys to come over and have a ball and then go back home and tell your friends how good it is.
Lakey Peak on the island of Sumbawa ; Onkey has delivered the good on what’s happening over at lakey’s this morning. His sms report came through right on the dot at 7.00am and says that wave height has jumped into the solid 4-5 foot range on Lakey Peak . There were only 10 surfers in the water at the time and another 3 tube junkies riding over on Lakey Pipe . They were on the bottom of a 0.9 low tide and surfing conditions were ultra clean and glassy. The results from yesterdays Lakey Peak Boardrider Club contest were 1st Joey, 2nd Samy, 3rd tony, 4th Herman. I’ve really got to hand it to the local surfers at lakey’s cause they organize and run their contests all by themselves with no sponsors or old legends to help out. Well done boys ! By the way the total number of visiting surfers in the Lakey area is down to 75. that’s around an average of 10 surfers per perfect wave location. For anyone want ing to try out Lakey Peak make sure you check the tidal information before you head over there. It’s pretty important that you line up your time there while the High Tide is happening through the early am and then progressing forward each day. That way you’ll be assured of scoring perfection. Merpati Airlines are flying there daily from Bali and you can buy your tickets from a 1000 different travel agents anywhere in Bali (and save yourselves some dollars by doing it on your pat malone) Once your in Bima there’s transport drivers waiting to take you to Lakey Peak for around Rp500,000 per van, and that’s split between the surfers. Then ya got a range of Hotels to choose from all right in front of the waves, ranging from low low budget to the very very comfortable rooms of the Aman Gati Hotel. Plus ya can always drop us an email for more information on getting across to lakey’s
