Know before you go
There’s a lot more to surfing Bali than just turning up at a famous name on the map.
Swell direction, wind, tide and time of year can make all the difference between scoring good waves and wondering what happened.
For every break in the guide we’ve included the things worth knowing before you paddle out. What swell suits it, the best tide, wind direction, the time of year it normally works best, what sort of bottom you’re dealing with and the level of surfer it’s suited to.
Plus a few local pointers and things to watch out for. It’s not going to guarantee you an empty line up and perfect waves, nothing will, but it should give you a pretty good idea of where to start looking.
First trip or fiftieth
If it’s your first trip to Bali, the guide should help take some of the guesswork out of where and when to surf. If you’ve been coming here for years, hopefully there’s still something useful in there for you.
That’s really what Baliwaves has always been about. Helping surfers get a better idea of what’s happening around Bali and pointing you in the right direction.
