MORNING SURF UP-DATE **** Howdy surfers and welcome aboard the baliwaves.com surf and weather report H.Q. Well yesterday ended up being a pretty good day for surfing here in Tuban with the Outer Reefs producing waves all day. Wind direction stayed clean and true, off-shore outta the ESE gusting up to 10-12knot. I even managed to find the time for a 1 hr paddle down at my favorite little semi secret beach break and scored some perfect waist to shoulder high right handers. This morning and I’ve had to re-think my plan of attack after checking out surfing conditions on the Outer Reefs and seeing that wave height has dropped off over night. What we are left with is small waves in the 1-2ft+ (waist to shoulder high) between Kuta Reef and Airport Left . There was no one out surfing on Kuta Reef , just a bit too small today . Middle Reef though already had a few riders out there catching waves in the shoulder to head high class. Airport Left also had a few surfers in the line up, but then that’s pretty standard for Airports. The wind was light (1knot) on-shore outta the West at day break, but now at 8.15am has turned to the ESE and off-shore along Bali’s West Coast , an I hope it stay’s there. I’ve just received a sms surf report from Bingin and my mate Sarge reckons he had a good surf down there this morning with wave height in the 2-3ft range. There were 10 surfers already out there when Sarge paddled out and 25 surfers in the water when he paddled back in. So if Bingin is getting 3 footers Balangan would also have to have slightly bigger ones just around the headland. Uluwatu would be in the 2-4ft+ class and the best bet for anyone looking for more power in their waves. The first of the tides was a Low that went down to 0.9mtrs at 7.30am then we’ll have a High tide of 2.2mtr’s happening around 1.30pm. Weather wise outside it’s faultlessly perfect holiday weather, heading for a top temperature in the low 30’s Celsius. Speaking about holidays, why would ya wanna go anywhere else but Bali ? when ya know once your hear your virtually assured of scoring perfect waves and weather everyday you’re here. That’s what I’d class as a surfing holiday. Ok then that’s about me for this mornings run down. I’m gunna head back down the beach after I pump out a few over due email replies. If there’s any change’s in the surfing dept I’ll get back to ya’s with an afternoon up-date. Have a good one and I hope to see ya’s here on the friendly little tropical holiday island of Bali in 2007.
Lakey Peak on the island of Sumbawa ; Dewa Made has sms’d through his Lakey Peak surf report and says that wave height is still holding in the 2-3ft+ range at 7.00am. Surfing conditions were clean and glassy with no wind present. 15 surfers were out the front surfing on Lakey Peak , no surfers over on Lakey Pipe. There were also a couple of lone riders further down the beach surfing at Nunga’s. The total number of surfers visiting at Lakey’s has dropped down to 70.
Kandui Surf Resort / Mentawai islands 23rd April ’07 ; Little windy this morning, blowing out of the northwest at 15mph or so. We were in no hurry to look for surf, figuring it would be slim pickings out there. Eventually, the winds lightened up and went a little more north so we took off to see what was going on. Once we got out of our protected area we could see how rough the ocean was, but the guests were keen for a surf so we went out at Nipusi where it was protected from the west bump by the Bankvaults reef and the winds were offshore. The waves were alright and no one was out, but it didn’t take long to get bored so we decided to go to Burgerworld even though we knew the winds were not the best. When we got there we could see sets coming in a couple of feet overhead, but the winds were, as expected, side-offshore from the open ocean (north wind), and there were a few guys on it. We were not that excited, but jumped in anyway. Lucky enough for us, guys keep getting out of the water at the same time it the conditions were getting better and better. Before too long, there were only 3 or so other guys out and it was glassy and peeling! We had a good hour of fun, overhead waves. It took about that long for the guys on the boats to finish their lunches or whatever and start filtering back into the lineup, but the tide was getting lower and the waves weren’t quite as good as before so we went back for some lunch ourselves. The wind picked up again later in the afternoon out of the north and our boat did a quick trip to Nipusi. It was a little overhead, offshore, and fun Expecting a little smaller surf tomorrow.
