Today I had a surf on the back beaches with two of my brothers. We found a nice couple of little wedges but a lot of people had the same ideas and banks filled up quickly. There was about 50 spread across a hundred yard stretch and another 30 or so up the beach further on a little known reef break. We hung in there for a couple of hours getting a few waves and enjoying the clean, warm water that was on offer. The waves were only in the 2ft range but still fun.
Once I had my surf out of the way I headed home, grabbed the camera gear then headed down to catch some of the action. Action being the start of surfings big names and the chase for this years world title. The boys were lighting up with some impressive surfing. You could see that everyone of them was keen to get of to a good start.
Kelly impressed as always surfing a 5’4″ quad apparently of his own design. Legend. All the boys rip though so what ever heat you saw there was some brilliant surfing to watch. No one looses in round one under the old format, (which they are running here) so there was a go for it attitude. Under the new rules it will be elimination from Rnd one. Bring that on I say.
Ok well the waves were pretty poor only in the 2ft range. By the time that I left at 230pm the wind was howling out of the north, and making things really tricky. It did bring out the punts however. I wittnessed some big airs by Julian Wilson and Taj Burrow.
Viva Brazil. the girls were out in force wearing next to nothing and making for a good distraction to what was happenning in the water.
Ok till next time. Scott.
What? No photos. What’s the point?
