Well for the last week or so I have been out of the water due to burning my leg, don’t ask it just happened. Its starting to look good now though so by the time I get back from a few days off island it should be nearly ready to go. Well here’s hoping lets put it that way.
My friends have completed building a new family temple and the celebrations have been going on for about a week now. I was privileged enough to be invited into their home for a couple of days to witness this ceremony first hand. There were many offerings, music, dancing, singing, and all round laughter to keep the celebrations rolling. Oh and don’t forget the food, there was plenty of that.
OK so as something a little different to my normal surf report here are a few snaps of the people, food and dancing that was going on while I was in attendance. So enjoy the people side of Bali, if you immerse yourself in their culture while your here, you will become a better person for it. You might just find the magic that is Bali, in her people with their beautiful smiles, warm hearts and a wealth of knowledge. So till I get back in few days enjoy something a little different.

hey Scott,
great photos, I couldn’t agree more, the culture and the people is what Bali is all about, there is so much more to it than just surf and partying.
The culture is colorful and interesting but 99% of tourists will never see anything more than someone doing an offering in front of their shop . Its a shame possibly, but when 99% of people one meets in Bali are only interested in the almighty $$$ and not trying to convert others to Bali hinduism then its difficult to see how this might change . Anyway , riding waves is better than sitting in church anyday!
Thanks,
My friends have never approached me to become Hindu? Bringing tourist dollars into Bali allows us to lead a privileged lifestyle, in my opinion it doesn’t hurt to give a little back sometimes. I do however feel its a real honour to be invited into their homes. To witness things that other tourists who don’t get out of their hotel rooms may never see. Surfing, an aged culture & the great friends I have made, for me that is what keeps me coming back.
