Bali Sport Fishing Scene June 2009
Hello to all you salty surfer come fishermen tuning in and I think it’s about time I tapped out another report, just to let ya all know that the sport fishing scene here in Bali is still going as strong as ever. And that you don’t need big bucks to spend a day out trying your luck with us !
Well as a rule our real trolling season doesn’t kick in until around mid July and then usually just keeps getting better and better through till the strong on-shore winds start to blow around late December. Then we take a break for a month or two, but still putting our traditional double out-rigger boats (6.5 – 8mtrs in length) in the water when we can.
Through June times were tough around this southern end of our island so a few of us tried our luck motoring 2 hrs up the coast to less fished waters and on the first day we came across some solid schools of GT’s and Tuna mixed together. The boys ended up boating over 30 fish that day with the average size being around 8kg’s. Hard work on light spinning rods with 20lb line I tell ya. But the next day when we went back there the schools had moved elsewhere, as fish do and we only managed 4 fish.
At the start of this month we thought our luck had once again changed for the best with too many to count schools of Tuna and Trevally busting up the surface close to home just half a km out behind the Outer reefs here in Tuban. But after repeatedly casting lure’s trolling lure’s and feather jigs the fish just were not interested, talk about frustrating !
Over the last couple of weeks the schools have still been showing up close to home and using a combination of casting when the schools bust up and jigging when they go down we have been managing to take home some fish, The last few days and the wind has been battering us and no one has been bothering to go out, but as soon as it starts to let off I reckon my boat is going to be one of the first to hit the drink. I’ve also included a few photos that my old mate and lure maker Pat from H20pro lures has sent me. The first 5 are of one of our latest guests the lovely Lyn from Australia’s Sunshine Coast who was stoked with her day out with us.
Ok crew don’t hesitate to send me an email if you would like to come out with us for some sport fishing Balinese style. Chances are it’ll be the best day fishing you have ever had.The boys charge AU$50.00 per person with a minimum of two guests for the day with everything but your hat included. Plus they’ll even throw together a Balinese fish BBQ for ya afterwards. So drop me a line through the “CONTACT” LINK
Best Regards from Bali
Slim
Hey fisho’s if you want to see and buy some of the hottest lure’s available for taking big palegic’s then you better take a look at this site www.h2oprolures.com we’ve been using Patrick’s lure’s for a couple of years now and they do drive those fishies crazy.
Hello mate. Me and the Mrs are coming over in october and will want to do some fishing, so how can I contact you when we get to Bali? I will probably bring my own gear as I want to fish off the beach as well. Do rapalas pick up fish as I was planning on trying them? Also how big is the average wave in october as last time we came (august) I really struggled to get to the line up at Kuta beach the bloody waves just kept coming and I can’t duck dive properly so I end up dangerously tired. If they are too big can you recommend any where that is really easy to get out. Cheers
Hi Bro, for the waves in October take a look back through our archived surf reports for that period and that should give you a good idea. If you email me (not comment) I can fill you in on the fishing scene.
Cheers, Slim
