****AFTERNOON SURF UP DATE****
Hello surfers and thanks for dropping into the baliwaves (’99) for another dose of surfing and weather info from the friendliest of friendly holiday destination of Bali.
Well it’s been a long one today and a lot of miles have been covered on the never ending wave hunt. We kicked off with a quick swell check on the Outer Reefs here in Tuban to see some slightly bigger waves breaking in the 2-3ft+ range between Kuta Reef and Airport Left. But again with the wind howling outta the West at 15knot plus.
So where did we start, oh yeah we were straight to the Bali version of (old) Kirra, Sanur Reef. Wave height at Sanur was only showing in the 2-2ft+ at first glimpse. But just before we decided to push on there were a couple of head high set waves peel off the top end of the reef.
Next stop was Padang Galak or also know as Secrets, not a lot happening here either with only waist to shoulder high set waves but with the wind hitting it cross shore pretty hard.
Onwards to Keramas, again nothing happening at 9.30AM with 10 surfers in the water and wave height only a meagre knee to waist high plus.
Last resort was Serangan, and as you can see by the time we made it back down the coast there were some decent sized set waves coming through in the 3-4ft+ sector with clean off shore wind on it. As expected there was plenty of other crew in the same boat as us with at least 90+ surfers scattered through the left and right handers.
You’ve checked the photos right, hows those two Japanese kids riding tandem on that old wind surfer board without the sail. I was hooting all the way when they paddled out and turned straight into a set wave. Took me back to when I was a grommet with my friends paddling those old plastic / rubber dinghy’s into the line up, and getting pounded over the falls.
Tidal action was pretty much neutral again today but should start to improve as we get closer to the New Moon.
Weather wise it’s been hot and sunny all day.
Swell Forecast is looking good for another week of waves and a couple of new swells in transit. The surfing focus will be mainly over on the East Coast with the continuation of WNW – WSW wind.

Night club danger; New’s came through to me of an Australian having the shit kicked out of him by no less than 6 security staff in a Kuta night club. Apparently the English owners of the bar gave the order to the security staff…. Caruso’s, Crusoes, (some name like that anyway) Bar in Kuta.
Best Regards in Surfing

Hey Slim, you’re right. The guys taking the wave in tandem lifts your spirits. Sometimes we get too serious about tricky moves and forget it is supposed to be fun.
Cheers, Doc
