BALI / INDONESIA
7th – 8th December 2019
Hello surfers and lovers of Bali and thanks again for stopping by the baliwaves (Bringing you all the good things from Bali since back in 1999) for our latest news and best possible views on surfing and weather conditions here on the island of the Gods, and the No.1 tropical surfing holiday destination and gateway to Indonesia’s surfing paradise, Bali.
Alrighty then well on the 7th with small waves or small waves the option for a paddle we decided on taking the run back up the coast to Balian. Nb; that’s the only time I’d bother taking the run up there cause if there is swell to be had elsewhere Balian is usually big fat and washy. But when it’s small everywhere Balian usually delivers some fun shaped waves. And that’s exactly what we had on the 7th, fun shaped waves in the chest to over head range and a nice light and friendly crew in the water. The inside lefts were breaking near perfectly and even I was getting a few until the shit hit the fan for me with a bad body twisting dismount resulting in some torn rib cartilage, instant fun ender.
Yesterday the 8th and as it shows in our latest photos on the baliwaves we cruised over to the East side of the island and found some playful little chest to head high waves at the always in season Keramas. Surfing conditions were super clean and glassy when we turned up at 6.30am and it stayed that way through till around 8.00am. Crowd wise it wasn’t too bad with only around 20 surfers in the water but the local grommets from up the road a bit were all over it and not letting many waves go through un ridden.
Weather wise it was brutally hot from 8.30am until sun down
This morning the 9th and our 7.15am surf check on the Outer Reefs was not showing much happening between Kuta Reef and Airports. The tide was just about on the top of the high making it pretty well flat. Wind direction was light out of the W-WSW. I’m ok with the small surf type conditions we have today as it’s now day 3 of my torn cartilage and the pain is exactly the same as it was on day 1. But, been there and done that and time heals all (so they say) as long as I don’t have to cough sneeze or laugh I’ll be ok.
Weather wise so far today there’s mostly blue sky with some cloud banking up down towards the Southern end of the island. Temperature wise now at 8.26am the mercury is already at 30 degree’s Celsius, Humidity is at 80% and the UV index starting to move up the scale. Wind direction is a very light W-WSW.
Tomorrows Swell Forecast is saying similar sized waves and more light wind through the morning. Further out there is some relief insight with a new swell set for arrival on the 11th hanging around through the 12th. Then another small bump for the 15th-16th if we are good boys and girls.
Our friend Mr Steve Pivetta has also sent us through a couple of old photos he took back in the 70’s one featuring his old lost friend and Bali surfing legend Mr Gede Namada and the other of a very quite and peaceful looking Kuta Beach. Steve is trying to get back in contact with his old friend so if anyone know’s how to contact Gede please let Steve know. I used to regulary bump into Gede out at Kuta Reef but haven’t seen him for awhile myself.
Please contact Steve Pivetta
