BALI / INDONESIA
17th February 2020
Hello surfers (KEEP READING BELOW) and lovers of Bali and thanks again for stopping by the baliwaves (Bringing you all the good things from Bali since back in 1999) for our latest news and best possible views on surfing and weather conditions here on the island of the Gods, and the No.1 tropical surfing holiday destination and gateway to Indonesia’s surfing paradise, Bali.
Ok just to get you all back up to scratch the weekend just gone did have a few small waves with small windows. But we thought it better to take the weekend off like most of you instead of a small wave overload.
Today the 17th and I did have beach withdrawals and had to get out and shoot a few waves. I got stuck in the everyday traffic on the way to this place, arriving at 8.15am. I can remember when it was once a 40 min drive to the Gu, not anymore. But I was pretty happy to see a nice clean off shore wind with some curvaceous head high waves. I was planning on spending most of the day on location, armed with all sorts of camera/video gear. But only 100 photos in a massive big black storm front appeared out of the WNW and swept through leaving just enough time to take cover.
Weather wise, nice light North wind early before the storm front moved through with wind out of the WSW. Now at 1.30pm it’s still cloudy here just South of Kuta there was just a few drops of rain with the bukit / Uluwatu / Nusa Dua area coping the brunt of the storm. The sky is still mainly overcast but not looking like any rain, just yet, maybe tonight. The wind is now more Westerly with gusts up to 12knot+
I hope this doesn’t offend to many expats with dogs in the Echo / Pererenan beach area but someone needs to say, the amount of DOG SHIT that is scattered along the shoreline where these people come to walk “their dogs” of a morning is at the stage where most days if your down along the waterline you can actually smell DOG SHIT. What would these people say if humans just came down and took a crap on the beach and left it there for others to step in or smell. No, I don’t think they would like “tourists” shitting on “their beach” and possibly be offended ? I constantly see the same expats walking their dogs on the beach and when their dogs take a dump on the sand they usually just flick a little sand over the their DOG SHIT and then keep walking, WTF. Needless to say that most of these dog walkers don’t surf…. Please, if your walking your dog take a plastic bag with you (biodegradable of course) and pick up your dog shit.
Tomorrows Surf Forecast is calling for more light and variable wind early out of the NNW before dedicating more WNW-W. I think we can expect wave height to hold similar to today’s size before a new swell with plenty of punch and grunt hits Bali on Wednesday and rolls into Thursday. The Indian ocean is starting to light up with waves in transit to Indonesia and only gets better and better from here on in.
Changing dollars to Rupiah on the streets of Bali, –1AU$=Rp9,100 –1US$=Rp13,565
Just a quick heads up on the Corona Virus if anyone is wondering if it’s safe here in Bali. Well I can tell you that as far as tourists from China go I have barely seen any Chinamen here in Bali for weeks. I personally think the Indonesian Gov has done a great job keeping everyone safe. If you are planning on coming over, and please do. Remember, “Charlie don’t surf” But just to be on the safe side I would wear a face mask through any international airport and keep a small bottle of hand sanitizer in your pocket.

Aside from providing everyone w epic surf reports for so many years. You nailed it w this mornings knee deep and on shore DOG SHIT report. Its definitely at a point where people need to be cognizant of what they are doing w their pets and show some respect, if not for health reasons alone. If u see this in action…Dont be afraid to tell someone to pick that shit up.!
