BALI SURF & WEATHER REPORT
6th April 2020
Hello surfers (KEEP READING BELOW) and lovers of Bali and thanks again for stopping by the baliwaves (Bringing you all the good things from Bali since back in 1999) for our latest news and best possible views on surfing and weather conditions here on the island of the Gods, and the No.1 tropical surfing holiday destination and gateway to Indonesia’s surfing paradise, Bali.
Well it’s been a bit hard to kick off the text on these surf reports since the shirt hit the fan and the Coronavirus keeping us in doors. I haven’t actually been out of our yard for I don’t remember how long, it’s even hard to remember off the top of my head what day it even is. But at least we still have the baliwaves archives to go through and dig into for more Bali surfing nostalgia and memories.
This batch of photos I shot back in May 2010 at our local Kuta Reef and features a few of the Tuban boys plus some of the young guns “at the time” from up in Kuta and Legian. Some of you might recognize them but I think most of you won’t feel free to make a comment if you do.
Anyway today the surf forecasting charts (that I trust anyway) are showing small waves here along our West Coast and slightly bigger over on the East side of the island, 3-5ft faces on a 12 second period. So I’d expect the East coast due to the swell direction to be at least up there in the head to head high plus region. Remember this is just an educated guess. Wind wise looking at the big coconut palm out my window it looks to me like it’s light Westerly at around 5-8 kms.
Weather wise we had a short but heavy rain shower last night and this morning it’s still mostly overcast in all directions. Temperature wise now at 10.55am it’s around 29 degree’s Celsius with a lot of humidity thrown in for the sweat factor.
The next tide today will be a 0.4mtr Low at 3.11pm and tomorrow the 7th we will see a Full Moon rising and big tidal ranges over the following few days afterwards.
Looking at the long range forecast it appears we have a new moderate swell in transit for Bali for on or close to the 7th then another moderate swell pretty much coming in on the back of the first around the 10th-11th taking us through to the 13th. But if a wave broke on Kuta Reef and no one was out there to see it…. did it really break haha.
Closed beaches. Ok well as far as I know every beach and reef has been closed from Medewi to Uluwatu. Over on the East coast I’ve been told Keramas is also off limits to the general public. It has got to the stage where now we have some army and police and Balinese police on stand bye in the hot spot areas to enforce the closures. Pretty soon I think they will impose fines and penalties for offenders, should be easy money I think.
I’m still hearing that many beaches on the East coast have not yet been closed. But my guess is that they will be all closed right across the island soon enough. This is not just happening here in Bali, it’s happening for a reason all over the World.
That’s just about me for now as I have to go out this afternoon… I think it is essential as being a fisherman here in Bali since day 1 and in the beginning fishing to eat and survive here. My outboard motor has been in for a service because I think it won’t be long and my fishing friends and I will be once again out there fishing to survive.
Ok friends stay safe and keep your heads down, if you want to get through it then for now where ever you are just stay at home. Keep an eye on the baliwaves.com and we will do our best to keep all you Bali people up to date.
