BALI SURF & WEATHER REPORT
5th – 9th August 2020
Firstly, Special thanks to our good friends that have kicked in some dollars to help my family and I keep food on our table, lights on and baliwaves.com being able to help keep you in the loop. We do know from first hand experience how tough it is here in Bali with absolutely no support other than friends and family.
Hello surfers and Bali lovers and thanks very much for taking the time out to drop by the baliwaves and see what we have been up to the last few days. Ok so going back to the 5th and I was back out trying to catch some fresh fish to help feed my family and luckily we did manage to get some nice Tuna that was delicious.
On the 6th I took a run down to Balangan hoping to find some surfers in the water. It was a bit of a risk burning my very precious petrol that I had left in the car and turned out to be a waste of time. I arrived down at balangan around 9.30am to find some nice waves peeling off and only 4 learner to intermediate surfers in the water. So I hung out with my local friends who own and run Hendra Warung hoping that some surfers would turn up. I did manage to shoot a minute or two of video but that was about it, I also managed to shoot a few minutes more this morning so I should be able to throw a quick clip together soon. So stay tuned to the baliwaves.
This morning the 9th we had light wind predicted so for a change of pace I took a drive up to Canggu. I hadn’t been up there since early March but have been hearing reports of crowds in the line up. Well the wind was light and the waves were cranking into the Sandbar and some sick tube riding going down thanks to some of the local boys. Crowd wise there was only dozen or so in the water while conditions were at the best. Then as the tide started to push in the river mouth also started to have a few waves and another hand full of surfers were on it.
I was only at Canggu for a couple of hours, arriving at 8.30am and pulling the pin when the wind started to blow on shore around 10.30am.
Weather wise it’s been a mostly hot and sunny day here in Bali, as you know it would be. Early morning light and variable wind before slowly making it’s way back around to the SE. The next tide today will be a 0.4mtr Low at 7.07pm tonight.
Tomorrows Surf predictions are saying to expect just a slight drop in wave height, not a big drop just a foot or so. We should have a light and variable wind again early before the Trade wind kicks in around mid morning.
Ok on the Bali Coprona Virus situation things are still very quite around here between Tuban and Kuta. Even though Bali has been re opened to domestic tourism from Java and surrounding islands. Seeing as though most places are still closed around these parts we are not seeing many newly arrived domestic tourists. With the rising number on Covid 19 cases in Java most people around here that I’ve talked to think it’s a good thing. It will remain to see if Bali’s numbers spike at all after a few weeks, but then testing is very low so we may not see an official spike. This morning between Seminyak and Canggu the traffic was almost back to normal and there were quite a lot of people around, compared to the Kuta / Tuban area. Even though the wearing of face masks has been made mandatory there are still a lot of people in the Canggu area not complying, my observation today.
Ok everyone thanks again and please tune in again soon and I should have another video edit from Balangan, Canggu and maybe even a little bit of footage from out in the boat. My fresh fish supply here at home is just about finished so I will need to take a day or two off to provide food for my family ok. Please contact me if you have a spare dollar to help keep baliwaves on line.
