BALI SURF & WEATHER REPORT
27th – 30th October 2020
Hello the everyone tuning into the baliwaves and firstly thanks for all your support for the baliwaves.com Just for the record baliwaves.com was the first website on line for Indonesia that had anything surfing related. In fact we were the 3rd website on line for all of Indonesia. The first was a Bali forum the second was a fishing website in Jakarta and coming in 3rd was your baliwaves.com These days I think there is something like 700,000,000. websites on line for Bali.
We hope everyone is surviving the best they can, here at ground level in Bali it really is about survival for the average people. For my self it’s all about getting through one day at a time, and some days are definitely better than others. The pandemic is dragging on and the longer it goes the more damage to the average persons mental health is really being stretched. We have made it through 10 months of no Family income only through the kindness and consideration of our friends. A big deep heart felt thanks to everyone who has considered our well being here in Bali.
Hey guys and gurls well as I mentioned last report wave height was dropping off and I was hanging the “gone fishing” sign up in the window for a few days. And that’s exactly what happened. From the 27th wave height had dropped off down into the 1-2ft range, well you might have got a weak 3 footer / head high wave if you really hunted for it, but basically it was pretty darn small. Out on the ocean in the open boat the swells that we had were merely riples.
We spent the last 3 days out live baiting from sun up till sun down each day. They were long and mostly scorchingly hot through the midday and then almost freezing cold on the cloudy afternoons. In an open boat your pretty much always wet, not the most luxurious or glamorous occasions. But these long days were paying off for us with some very nice catches and memorable fights on reasonably light fishing line for the class of fish we were targeting. We did get a heap of photos and video clips so as soon as the smoked clears or as soon as they stop biting I’ll throw a short video together of our exploits sport fishing Bali style.
Yesterday afternoon we did start to see the new swell starting to roll into Bali. We were out off Canggu an going over some solid 4ft ocean swells. The wind had also come up strong out of the East yesterday so it was pretty rough in the Canggu area. Coming back in through the Reefs of Tuban late afternoon and the wind was howling off shore into a 3-5ft swell between Kuta Reef and Airport left.
Today the 30th and I had friends up at Canggu report in to us that it was way too big for the Gu and mainly just closing out between the River mouth and Sandbar. So with the wind still light the boys and I thought, hoped there was some swell getting into Keramas as the tides were good for it. But as it shows in these latest photos we shot this morning wave height was only in the chest to slightly over head class. The wind had also swung to the ESE by the time we arrived all be it only light. There were still 10 surfers in the water and it di look fun to me.
Weather wise today it’s been another hot summers day here on the holiday island of Bali. Right now at 2.50pm the temperature is a very warm 31 Celsius, Humidity is at 73%. Wind direction is coming out of the E-ESE at 22km/h+
Tomorrows surf forecast is saying to expect plenty of swell still about on the West Coast but slowing fading out through out the day. Light and variable wind early before dedicating to the E-ESE by mid morning.
Further out wave height will keep backing off until another bump in wave height with a new swell showing up around the 4th of Nov and providing some fun to medium sized waves through till the 6th. The wind has been still good through October and hopefully stays that way for the next week.
On the Bali Corona Virus scene it looks almost normal, except for the fact that 95% of the locals here are wearing masks when out in public (25% of the tourists wearing them) most locals seem to be just going about their normal daily business. You wouldn’t really know there was a gobal pandemic happening. No one really knows the exact number of infections and deaths here in Indonesia that I’m certain of.
We have had a national holiday (29th) that has made it a 4 day long weekend here in Indonesia. Driving over to the East Coast this morning the traffic was thick and slow Indicating a big load of domestic holiday arrivals in Bali. This may reflect in an increase in infections, but then again it probably won’t. I’ve given up watching the daily numbers as they just don’t really change much from day to day. It seems like Indonesia is beating the virus by not doing anything, fingers crossed.
