Damai Bungalows, South Sumatra
7th October 2020
Hi all, just touching base with what has and hasn’t been happening up here in Krui, Lampung, Sumatra. Along with most Indo destinations things remain deftly quiet. Local tourists have been propping the area up over the weekends accommodation wise and on a local basis things are as normal, local warungs and even a couple of new warungs that have opened are being well supported by those that are here, which keeps spirits up for all. The farmers still farm, the fisho’s still fish, and the ol Bapak’s still sit on their verandah’s lunging a Gudang down of an afternoon. Like many other places both in Indo and around the world, it’s the tourist based businesses that are still being kicked in the guts…. hotels, losmans, resto’s, drivers, suppliers and everybody else that builds their business around tourism
But we are still hanging in here, still supporting our loyal staff with monthly wages to get through whatever the hell you want to call 2020
On the surf and weather front it’s been a mixed bag lately. As usual the last few weeks has produced a few ground swells that had nobody ducking for cover to more protected spots LoL……. The trade winds have been blowing keeping out front and the Krui strip offshore all day, with really only the groms when it’s smaller and high tide having a dig. We’ve said it before but it really is like turning the clock back to the early 00’s when we first came to this awesome area, it truly is EMPTY. The irony of it all is it’s now the time to be here to surf uncrowded waves and it’s also the hardest time ever for punters to get here. We are hearing it is possible to get here from abroad now on various visa’s through various agents, a google search would point you in the right direction there. For those still or already here in Indo get cracking and get on up here, us along with the neighbors are all ready to host and get you into some stoinking uncrowded waves. We are slowly moving into the fringe season which generally means fewer macking swells and lighter winds, which open up more of the coastline ( beachies ) for us all. The fabled catch cry of ” can we get Covid price? ” runs true with most enquiries these strange days and the answer is yes, ok, depending on length of stay, how many people etc etc, so hit us up, frankly hit any of us up and lets do the deal. Everyone wins, you guys get some uncrowded waves, the staff get a boost having people around again and hopefully the whole vibe lifts throughout the area
Not much else really to report from out here, pretty quiet sums it up, we hope where ever you are on this rock you are well, safe and happy, we’ll be back again soon with another update and again cheers Slim for the opportunity to let punters know what’s going on up here, till next time
Get shacked…… Jungleman…….
Great summery of events up there love to get there but covid is a shit in our lives maybe next year don’t have a Kelly slater sports visa
