BALI SURF & WEATHER REPORT
16th November 2020
Hello the everyone tuning into the baliwaves and firstly thanks for all your support for the baliwaves.com Just for the record baliwaves.com was the first website on line for Indonesia that had anything surfing related. In fact we were the 3rd website on line for all of Indonesia. The first was a Bali forum the second was a fishing website in Jakarta and coming in 3rd was your baliwaves.com These days I think there is something like 700,000,000. websites on line for Bali.
We hope everyone is surviving the best they can, here at ground level in Bali it really is about survival for the average people. For my self it’s all about getting through one day at a time, and some days are definitely better than others. The pandemic is dragging on and the longer it goes the more damage to the average persons mental health is really being stretched. We have made it through 10 months of no Family income only through the kindness and consideration of our friends. A big deep heart felt thanks to everyone who has considered our well being here in Bali.
Wow well that last week certainly went by so quick. My main focus was trying to catch enough fish to feed my family and get the bills paid. Feeding the family went ok but not quite enough fish to pay the bills. Luckily thanks to the help of a few solid friends support for helping us out.
Surf wise there has been a few waves and some up and down swell, along with some on shore and off shore wind patterns. Here on the Outer reefs of Tuban namely Kuta Reef to Airport left there has been plenty of waves on offer. But with no shortage of crowds at Kuta Reef and Middle Reef. Yesterday with a nice 3-5ft (head to almost double head high) there were at least 40 surfers in the line up on Kuta Reef. Now that is a solid crowd and I’m glad I wasn’t out there.
We would also like to welcome our latest friends on baliwaves with H2O fishing lures joining us. If you want fishing lures that work then check out what these people have on offer.
Today my lad Ray and I thought we would take a run over to the East coast hoping to find the predicted swell and SSW direction showing on Keramas. But as it shows in today’s photo gallery wave height was still only in the chest to slightly over head high class. Although surfing conditions were clean and glassy with the wind only just coming out of the East. Crowd wise there looked to be a pretty hungry crew of around 20 surfers in the line up but mostly only a 3-4 locals getting the most of the waves.
Weather wise summer has fully kicked in, no Spring, just bang straight into Summer. For most of us that have air conditioners in the bedroom it’s a catch 22 situation not being able to afford the extra cost to run them. So it’s like going back in time to when only the Hotels had air con running in the rooms. Right now at 2.30pm we have a mostly blue sky and the temp is on 33 degree’s Celsius (taking the family down the beach for a swim is on the cards this afternoon for sure). Humidity is 62% and the wind is East at 20km/h.
Tomorrows surf forecast is saying to expect wave height to be backing off a little through out the day. Light and variable wind early before dedicating to the E-ESE, but that is a daily call now at this time of the year. Further out over the next 7 days I don’t think we are going to be seeing any new swells hitting Indo.
I took a run over to the biggest supermarket in Bali yesterday, CareFour on the Sunset Rd (to buy some mince meat) and was shocked to see pretty well no one in the whole place, the shelves were low on stock and on;y 1 checkout out of 20 open. Maybe no one shops at 12 noon ? but it was sad to see.
Domestic tourism here in Bali at the moment is probably at an all time high for some reason. Out on the roads the traffic is almost back to normal again (except between Tuban and legian) Most beaches are quite through the mornings then between 4-6pm your lucky to get a park for a motor bike it’s that crowded, 95% domestic tourists from the surrounding islands of Bali, On Saturday Indonesia had it’s biggest number of positive cases since the pandemic began. With Bali posting low infection numbers it looks like Bali is the safest place to be in Indonesia and maybe the reason of the mass exodus here.
Ok we sure do want to thank each and everyone of you for your continued support of the original Bali surf report. We can’t wait to get back to some kind of normality and welcome you all to Bali again, Thanks again !
