BALI SURF & WEATHER REPORT
31st January 2021
Hello Bali people and thanks for tuning into the baliwaves, the original Bali surf report website since back in 1999. I hope all you guys are doing ok where ever you may be or roam. Not much has changed for us here in Bali except that the virus has tightened it’s strangle hold grip on us. With the amount of now daily new positive cases here and right across the nation it’s almost getting back to where we were 10 months ago.
Stay at home and pretty much avoid everyone, especially with all domestic borders open and traffic flowing, mostly one way into Bali. yesterday I had to take this old computer into Denpasar to try and keep her going. Out on the streets the roads were all busy and full of traffic in Bali’s capital city, but when you looked into any shop, resto etc they were mostly all empty as.
Here on the West Coast Bali surf scene there hasn’t been much on offer that wasn’t offering small waves with fresh on shore Westerly wind. But at least, as predicted we did start to see a new swell start to grow. Wave height here on the Outer Reefs wave height is currently in the 3-4ft+ range and maybe some bigger waves hitting the Middle Reef. But with that onshore Westerly wind mushing it out. Some solid waves getting into Uluwatu but a similar scenario with the wind.
There has also been a bump in wave height over on the East Coast according to one of my local mates over there. Made said there was some good clean waves at Keramas this morning but “super crowded” with the “West Coast crew” out on the wave hunt. If the weather holds up tomorrow morning I’ll try and get over there for some live reports and shoot some photos and video.
Weather wise well the rain continues to fall and the last few days we have been getting hammered with some heavy falls. In a way I’m glad that my boat is off it’s mooring and back up on the sand with outriggers dismantled like most of the Pantai Jerman fleet. This morning the 31st and now at 1.10pm the ground is still damp and the sky is overcast. The temperature as it always is here in Bali is still a warm 28 degree’s Celsius. Wind direction earlier was more NW-WNW but now has turned a little more to the West but still a smidgen of North in it, Humidity is at 83%.
Tomorrow’s surf forecast is showing wave height to be backing off slightly and wind direction and strength similar as today. Further out it looks like another medium swell will be filling in almost right on the back our current system on the 2nd of February.
Today’s photo gallery has had me delve back into my archived photo vault for some more images from the Quiksilver Uluwatu Challenge that was a QS 1000 WSL event in 2015. All of Indo’s best surfers were in it to win it and the Uluwatu boys put up a very good show with then young guns Tumbling and Agus Blacky standing out.
