BALI SURF & WEATHER REPORT
14th January 2021
Hello Bali people and thanks for tuning into the baliwaves, the original Bali surf report website since back in 1999. We really hope your 2021 is already an improvement on last year and that our situation can only improve through the year. Here in Bali our situation has only declined while the graphics for the virus casualties only keeps pointing up wards and apparently out of control. It does seem that our chances of seeing tourism return to Bali all hangs on the outcome of the vaccination program that will slowly start to get under way in the next week or so. But in reality will take many more months of suffering before we see any results.
This also doesn’t mean us little folk will be first in line and it looks like we will be several more months away before we can breathe (pardon the pun) a little easier after inoculations. All we can do in the mean time.. is try to avoid crowds, wear our masks and wash our hands. We really thank each and everyone of you have helped Bali in one way or another and I’m sure Bali will not forget you. You really are Bali people. That goes to all our friends that have helped my family through 2020, the people that really know us and our situation, you have got this far. I don’t where we would be without your kindness, I just hope we can see this out a little longer.
Since our last up date there has been a few waves, I do mean waves not waves of high Bali quality but waves all the same. The 12th we had light variable wind and some small waves on offer. Early morning with the wind out of the North the Canggu area was delivering clean fun sized waves but you had to be a little desperate or un aware of the chocolate colored dirty water. The dirty river water would have been all the way up along the West Coast caused from all the rain that feel beforehand. You can pretty much guarantee an ear infection in those kind of conditions.
Yesterday the 13th foot was feeling ok (kind of) to take the drive up to the mountains of Karangasem to finally collect my family. I did pass by the coast closely at Lembeng but didn’t see anything breaking there, the wind looked clean and off shore though. Sadly the further I drove up the coast the less and less I say people wearing masks (locals) and zero social distancing. Passing through Candi Dasa the once boom holiday location for Europeans I didn’t see one tourist, on the way home I spotted just 1.
This morning the 14th and wave height here on the Outer Reefs of Tuban was only showing in the 1-3ft range between Kuta reef and Airport left. The tide at the time was full and fat from yesterdays New Moon and the wind is strong and gusty out of the W-WSW so it’s not a pretty sight and I doubt if anywhere is anywhere near it’s best today here in Bali.
Weather wise right now at 10.00am we still have a mostly grey and gloomy sky and I’m sure it was raining somewhere earlier. The temperature as almost always is still a tropical 27 degree’s Celsius, humidity is at 85%. Hopefully we might see some sun later this afternoon. The wind is fresh out of the WSW at 10-12knot+
Tomorrows Surf forecast is predicted to be pretty much the same size as today but with a longer 12 second period compared to this mornings 8 second interval. Swell direction should tend a little more to the SSW but the wind is also predicted to be fresh SW-WSW so I’ll guess we will have to wait and see how it actually is. It is a tough call trying to forecast the wind and weather for that matter around this time of the year in the tropics.
Our long range surf forecast is not looking too hot. Except for a small bump late tomorrow through the 16th the next 7 days is only showing 1-3 waves at best across the board.
Our good friend Jeroen from the luxurious Swell-Bali surfers boutique hotel located at Bingin has sent us through a few photos (today’s gallery) from Uluwatu and Bingin from the other day while the wind was still light and variable. There is also some more bad weather and T/C’s T/D’s predicted to form between Indonesia and Australia over the coming week.
On the Bali Corona Virus situation Indonesia continues to record record daily new cases and Bali is also reflecting the same. Most of Bali is now classified as “red zone” which indicates High Risk for the virus. So please spare us all a thought. I think maybe it’s time to close all borders and try to contain, track, trace and treat the cases we have already instead of allowing new positives into the island. But that is only my opinion okay.
Ok thanks for tuning into the baliwaves and you know that sooner rather than later Bali will be back on fire with perfect waves and weather again, so stick with us.
