BALI SURF & WEATHER REPORT
8th January 2021
Hello surfers and Bali lovers and thanks for dropping into the baliwaves again. Well we are pretty happy to have 2020 behind us now and trying to feel more positive for better times and easier living in 2021. I feel it’s still a long way off, well maybe another 6 months or so at least before we start to see you starting to travel to Bali again. I really want to thank all our friends who have been showing Bali some help and support, my Family included. I really don’t know where we would be without your help.
Well 10 days later and another trip to our local Dr and my foot is finally starting to feel a little better and has lost some of the black coloring around the wound. It almost looks like a normal infection I’m stoked to say.
Surf, what surf, wave height has still been pretty small around Bali but we did get a small bump in size this morning that was predicted. Rain, nothing but rain has been what we have been served up the and I really don’t remember how how long agon it all started. So the places that might have had a few small but sly waves here along the West Coast between Canggu and Balian would still have a few sly ones. But, you’d be risking your health from putrid chocolate colored water and maybe even worse further up at Balian.
Weather wise today it rained all through the night and never let up up until around 10.00am this morning. Right now at 12.25pm the sky is a dull grey color and a big chance of more wet stuff to come. Temperature wise the mercury is a cool 26 degree’s Celsius, Humidity is at 90%, The wind was light and variable early but now has dedicated to the West abd gusting up to 25kmh.
Further out the bureau has predicted another wet week with scattered thunder storms for most parts of Bali along with more WSW-W wind. Not much swell in transit with just the little push I mentioned for the 10th in my last up date.
Today’s photo gallery makes me smile with lots of good memories of surfing at this location, my first session here was in 96 and there was no one here except 2 locals. Pre internet I don’t know how many trips I made up there only too get skunked. But compared to the West Coast it’s a much more scenic area and lots of good local food stop options. This place has come along way since back then and there are really nice local home stay / guest house set ups on location, There are also the more luxury type of villa for those that prefer to go that way as well. But this location is no longer the “secret spot” of yester year like so many that were and now are not. If the tide is right you can expect to see 50 in the line up. Other days when the tide is still on the dry side you might get lucky but then the “rock hop” is not fun and riddled with sea urchins.
On the Bali Corona Virus situation numbers continue to rise steadily and yesterday Indonesia busted through the 9,000 new positive cases in 1 day mark, an all time high since the onset of the pandemic. Bali also had an alarmingly high rate well over 150 new positives. The Governor of Bali has now started to implement new restrictions here with a cut down in numbers allowed in places of worship, restaurants no social gatherings permitted and supermarkets to close by 7.00pm. No mention of closing borders though even with an increasing number of domestic imported cases into Bali from other area’s of Indonesia. We are still waiting for news on vaccinations and when they may begin but that’s going to be a big job. So pretty much we still only have common sense to keep us safe. If only the “new breed” of tourists up in the Canggu area would follow the set protocols, but I think that would be asking too much. Pray for Bali.
Ok friends thanks again for stopping by the baliwaves and when the rain clears and the waves start pumping again we will get back out there. Please remember we are doing our best to follow the rules here in Bali. It’s a pretty big and constant effort to keep a safe distance from people and a better option at this stage to keep the semi isolation in place. It’s a whole different World here in Indonesia compared to where you are.
