BALI SURF & WEATHER REPORT
21st February 2021
Thanks again for dropping into the baliwaves (the original Bali surf report website since back in 1999. We really are saddened that we can’t keep the on location daily report happening through these extremely hard times here in Bali, but we are doing our best. Sure, there are waves out there just about everyday of the year, somewhere in Bali is always pumping out waves. But the problems are that firstly there is a pandemic happening and Bali has not been exempt from the sickness and deaths that goes with that kind of stuff. Then there’s been really bad weather and when you couple that up with having to buy petrol to find those good waves. Time is one thing we do have, but cash to burn on petrol we don’t I’m sorry. Keeping my family feed and the bills paid have been our No.1 priority, just like most average families here in Bali.
Hello friends and we are extremely grateful to still be here at posting photos, videos and the usual surf and weather info so you can still get your Indo fix. My word it has been a tough haul and now we have well and truly passed the 12 month mark of no income due to none of you being here in Bali yet. Without your support through all this we would be in dire straights for sure. We still have at least another 6 months of this to get through so please don’t give up on us just yet. Anytime you can spare us a dollar we will be eternally grateful.
Ok so we have had a fairly standard type of late February weather with lots of rain with some night time thunder / lightning thrown in, yes pretty standard indeed. We have also had some light morning wind and neat and tidy surfing conditions, more so on the East Coast, but still surfable here along the West side.
Today the 21st Ray and I thought we would take a run over to the East Coast to Keramas before the wind kicked in. We hung out until the tide bottomed out at 9.00am before making the run over as it’s around a 45 minute drive from Tuban on the South side of Kuta. I wasn’t expecting to see too many surfers in the water due to the tide still being lowish but was surprised to see 15-20 in the water at 9.45am.
Surfing conditions at Keramas were still pretty clean with the wind still only light out of the WSW. The local boys with visiting grommets were in control of the waves this morning. I was stoked to see stand out East Coast surfer “Lempog Jackson” out in the water ripping it up some some big powerful turns in the small waves.
As the morning went on the wind kept increasing in strength out of the WSW-SW so Ray and I called it a day right on 11.30am. I do expect that the waves may have become a little more consistent with the tide running in but the wind wasn’t doing it any favors.
Weather wise today it was a mostly hot and sunny day here in Bali with a few clouds drifting through from time to time. Late this afternoon the wind had backed off a little coming out of the South at 5-7knot
Tomorrows surf forecast prediction is calling for more small waves along both sides of the island with a new swell starting to show late tomorrow afternoon and supply us with waves through until the 25th and then we might see another smaller swell arrive at the end of the month. Wind wise the start of the week looks like being dominantly out of the W-SW with a nice change to the North on Wednesday through Friday.
Not much new news on Bali’s Corona Virus situation for us here, not a lot of transparency in regards to the number of foreigners contracting the Covid-19 and no news on testing numbers. I don’t think many of us know where the vaccination program is at either. As a rule most news on the virus stops on the weekends but hopefully we will have some new and fingers crossed positive news to pass on. The sooner we get the population vaccinated the sooner Bali can start getting back to a new normal.
