BALI SURF & WEATHER REPORT
26th February 2021
Thanks again for dropping into the baliwaves (the original Bali surf report website since back in 1999. We really are saddened that we can’t keep the on location daily report happening through these extremely hard times here in Bali, but we are doing our best. Sure, there are waves out there just about everyday of the year, somewhere in Bali is always pumping out waves. But the problems are that firstly there is a pandemic happening and Bali has not been exempt from the sickness and deaths that goes with that kind of stuff. Then there’s been really bad weather and when you couple that up with having to buy petrol to find those good waves. Time is one thing we do have, but cash to burn on petrol we don’t I’m sorry. Keeping my family feed and the bills paid have been our No.1 priority, just like most average families here in Bali.
Hello friends and we are extremely grateful to still be here at posting photos, videos and the usual surf and weather info so you can still get your Indo fix. My word it has been a tough haul and now we have well and truly passed the 12 month mark of no income due to none of you being here in Bali yet. Without your support through all this we would be in dire straights for sure. We still have at least another 6 months of this to get through so please don’t give up on us just yet. Anytime you can spare us a dollar we will be eternally grateful.
Ok well there has been a couple of days with the solid swell that was predicted earlier in the week. The East Coast was where it was at but weather wise it was very ordinary with rain and almost constant cloud cover. Yesterday the 25th here on the West Coast wave height was down in the 1-3ft+ range between Kuta Reef and Airport Left (re twitter / Instagram video report). Cleanish surfing conditions early through until around 11.00am when the wind kicked in hard out of the W-WNW and gusts up to 25knot, not pretty.
This morning we had more light wind predicted along with a further drop in wave height. So the boys and I thought we might take a run down to Uluwatu. What we would normally do when wave height drops down, head to Ulu. We arrived down there at 9.00am to find a totally deserted car park area that was in dire need of a service. But even more shocking was to see only 1 lone surfer in the water surfing the main peak by himself.
Wave height at Uluwatu was also pretty small but easily chest to head high with maybe a couple of slightly bigger ones. The tide was about an hour off the top of the high and the wind was super light out of the WNW. Temple’s had a few little lines showing that looked like they would be fun but no other surfers in sight. We thought about hanging out in our favorite warung and seeing what would happen but no warungs that we passed were open so we canned it and drove back home. Passing Padang Padang there wasn’t even any learners in the water on the clean little learners bank. No surfers in the water on Impossible’s but I’d say the tide and wave size would have had a lot to do with that.
Today’s photo gallery I’ve loaded around 10 photos I snapped with my phone down at Uluwatu this morning. Also added a few photos from February 2010 that I took down at Uluwatu. To show you that we are indeed getting close to the change of seasons wave quality wise not too mention the comparison in people traffic then to now.
Weather wise this morning it nice and clear down at Uluwatu, now at 11.55am the sky has clouded over back here in the Kuta area. It is still nice and warm though with the mercury on 28C and Humidity at 84%. The wind is still light and variable at 3-7kmh. We will also see a Full Moon rising tonight.
Tomorrow’s surf forecast is calling wave height to keep sliding and more light and variable wind. High tide will be around 10.00am.
Long range hopefully we will see a spike in wave height around the 28th to see out the end of this month and take us in March.
Driving down to Uluwatu from Kuta everyone on the road was wearing masks and respecting the laws that have been in place since the start of the pandemic. It’s different hear in case you didn’t know it’s not like Australia where there are practically no new cases of the virus and the deaths that goes with it. Here in Bali we really don’t know how many actual new cases there are on a daily basis. Reportedly there are officially anywhere between 200-400 new cases each day on this little island. But you can imagine how many go un reported due to the fear of being taken away and quarantined, away from your family. Different people, cultures and different frames of mind all go into the equation.
We don’t get any information on the number of tests performed on general public here in Bali and some parts of the island are not reporting any new up dates on their situation at all. So it’s still a bit of a worry for the average person over here. When driving down to Ulu this morning and seeing 99% of the local population on the road wearing masks but when we got down towards Bingin, Padang Padang and Ulu to see *Westerners flaunting the face mask protocol. To me it’s like these people are saying “fuck you Bali” we will do what we please, sad to see these type of people here on the island of Bali.

Hey Slim, read your report & the fact that majority of tourists there are flaunting the rules regarding wearing masks. What are the police doing about this situation, here in Oz if you are directed to wear a mask & don’t do so you are fined if you don’t comply!
Slim says
New rules passed Greg, first offence is now %p1,000,000. for repeat offenders or argumentive / abusive tourists its deportation 🙂
