BALI SURF & WEATHER REPORT
18th March 2021
Thanks again for dropping into the baliwaves (the original Bali surf report website since back in 1999. We really are saddened that we can’t keep the on location daily report happening through these extremely hard times here in Bali, but we are doing our best. Sure, there are waves out there just about everyday of the year, somewhere in Bali is always pumping out waves. But the problems are that firstly there is a pandemic happening and Bali has not been exempt from the sickness and deaths that goes with that kind of stuff. Then there’s been really bad weather and when you couple that up with having to buy petrol to find those good waves. Time is one thing we do have, but cash to burn on petrol we don’t I’m sorry. Keeping my family feed and the bills paid have been our No.1 priority, just like most average families here in Bali. Please click this link if you can spare a dollar or two Thank You
Hi friends and seeing as though wave height has been pretty small and below Bali standards I wasn’t going to do a post cause I know no one wants to see photos of 1-2ft+ waves, hell ! I don’t want to have to edit photos of 1-2ft waves for that matter. I did take a run up to the “Gu” last Monday with the boys but only to find 1-2ft waves and I never even bothered to take my camera out of the box.
But a couple of weeks ago I received and email from a lady with whom I had never met. She was a Mother who had just lost a son. In the email she told me how back sometime in 2013 her beloved son had appeared in a photo on the baliwaves.com and that he was pretty stoked about it at the time. She still had a copy of the photo that I had posted. But the original photo “properties” with the file information were from the day she sent me the photo. She was hoping for a 1 in 1,000,000. chance that I still had the full resolution original photo on file. I have a cupboard full of external hard disks all full of photos and video footage from years and years ago. A taunting task and almost like looking for a needle in a haystack you might say.
After spending hours searching through my Uluwatu collection I so stoked today to find the photo this Lady was hoping to get of her son and couldn’t wait to email her back with the good news.
I also found some classic photos of the Uluwatu groms of 2013 and a few friends from back then getting some very nice waves, as this latest gallery delivers. There’s also a few street scenes that some of you will remember, the best couple for me are the one of Pak Gusti Ngurah Rai (Statue) when it was at the intersection that leads from the Highway down to the Airport. Before the round about under / over pass and toll road were built. The other is the photo of the Uluwatu Car Park that was still gravel and rock. I saw so many learner motorbike riders stack it in that carpark on the loose gravel, lots of skinned knees and elbows.
This mornings surf check on the Outer Reefs here in Tuban was showing hardly a ripple breaking between Kuta Reef and Airport left. The tide was heading towards the top of the tide just before midday when I checked. While the wind was light to fresh out of the West.
Weather wise we have had a beautiful day with nothing but blue sky and sunshine. Yesterday started out ok but ended up being another wet and thunder / lightning loaded afternoon. Right now the temperature is 31 degree’s Celsius (1.30pm) and the wind is West at 10-15kmh.
Tomorrows Surf Forecast is showing wave height to be still bottoming out in the -1ft+ range across the board. The wind is expected to be stronger and might kick up a little wind swell towards the afternoon. Just for the record the period is showing tomorrow afternoon at 4-6 seconds.
Long Range Surf Forecast to is looking like we should get some better clean and straight swell arriving to Bali sometime on the 22nd or for breakfast on the 23rd.
On the Bali Corona Virus scene official numbers are showing a big drop across the nation but still reasonably (scarily) high for Bali. Could be a little smoke and mirror affect coming into play with the big hotel sector trying to push hard for tourism to re open in Bali. But with none or very little of the general population yet to be vaccinated i think it’s a bit big of an ask just yet. Hopefully the Government will get the vaccination rolling out right across Indonesia in the near future and then we may have a chance of tourism to return.
Ok friends stay in touch and please feel free to drop me an email with any queries you might have for when we do get going again. I think for any visa matters or entry to Bali you will be better off seeking correct info from those government authorities concerned and not so much on Face book.
