BALI SURF & WEATHER REPORT
14th – 15th April 2021
Hi Bali people and thanks for dropping into the baliwaves (the original Bali surf report since back in 1999). We have been trying to keep the reports photos and videos coming through to you as best we can, but times have been tough and surfing conditions have been pretty ordinary in the early months of 2021, well so far anyway. Now with the season almost ready to go into full on Tradewind mode things will all start to look better.
Talking about hard times we are still having an extremely hard time. We would really like to give our heart felt thanks to all our friends that have helped us out with paying our bills and buying food etc. No income since Jan 2020 has been a long hard stressful slug. Thanks again ! So if anyone tuning in could spare us a dollar (Via our PayPal account) it would make a big difference for my family. (Please hit this link)
Nice to see a little bump in wave height this morning or I should say midmorning I guess. Yesterday afternoon’s surf check on the Outer Reefs of Tuban was still only showing wave height in the 1-2ft+ range but the water sure was nice and refreshing in for a swim, perfect medicine for the soul, and best anti depressant on the market.
I thought today was going to be a write off at first with nasty big black clouds as far to the South as I could see dropping heavy rain. But by 8.30am it was starting to clear up so Ray and I took a run down to Uluwatu to hopefully catch a little more size. It was our first run down to Ulu this year so we were both interested to see how things were going down on the bukit.
I do have to say that from Bingin down to Uluwatu the place is going through some transition, similar to the way that Canggu went. Or maybe the locals are just catering to the Europeans that have settled into the area, similar to Canggu. I’m not saying it’s a bad thing, it was great to see most resto’s and cafes down that way all with bums on seats. But at Uluwatu itself except for the car park just about all the warungs are still closed.
There were some nice peaks hitting the Main Peak while we were on the scene at Ulu. Wave height was in the well over head class or 4 ft and there might have even been a couple of slightly bigger 5 footers roll through. Crowd wise it was a little reminiscent of better times in Bali with 40+ surfers on The Peak. Plenty of lip launches, over the fall’s nose dives and grown people being pushed into waves. Even a rescue that had 1 new surfer barely able to lie on his board being towed out of the impact zone by holding onto the leash of a local surfer. It was great to be back at Uluwatu. There were also a few waves breaking up on Temple’s but it was smaller with a long wait between waves.
Surfing conditions were clean but the fresh off shore SE-ESE wind was putting just a little chop on the faces. The tide was also pretty fat while we were on the scene and running up for a 2.4mtr High.
Tomorrows Surf Forecast is calling for wave height to peak at maybe another foot on what we had today so there should be plenty of waves at most locations along Bali’s West Coast. Expect light and variable wind early before dedicating E-ESE by mid morning.
Ok friends thanks again for tuning into the baliwaves and we will be back with more Bali news and views as it happens. I hope you liked the couple of posts from Lombok and Sumbawa thanks to our digital surf nomad Ben. Hopefully he will send us some new news from his travels again soon.
