BALI SURF & WEATHER REPORT
26th – 27th April 2021
Hello Bali people and thanks for stopping by the baliwaves (the original Bali surf report website since 1999, for surfers by surfers)
I don’t know if most of you are still aware that Bali is really still hurting, most of Bali anyway. I guess you could say there are a couple of area’s around Canggu and down on the bukit that are cashing in from the European explosion. I also heard from a friend who took a trip up to Balian hoping to score a few waves through our flat spell. He couldn’t believe that there were so many surfers up at Balian as well. My family and I have a small guest house that mostly serves to Aussies and there hasn’t been any real Aussie visitors here on holiday since last Jan 2020. We are not alone of course, especially if any of you have watched the last video clip I posted with footage from Kuta and Legian.
Last year there was lots of people organising relief with financial and food package relief but that seems to have just about stopped. So if you know people here in Bali please drop them a line and check to see if they are ok. There are a lot of desperation and depression happening around the island. Likewise if any of our friends can spare a dollar or two to help my Family it would be greatly appreciated, thanks (please hit this link to help out).
Yesterday the 26th our friends from Swell Bali Hotel (Bingin) took a run down to Uluwatu for the afternoon low tide Racetrack session and sent us through some photos to show you. The last couple of days Uluwatu has been the stand out location here along the West Coast of the island. No wonder either after a long rain full wet season I think most people here on the island have been hanging out for it. So if your here in Bali and looking for somewhere very cool and comfortable to stay down on the bukit, walking distant to the waves go talk to Jeroen at Swell Bali and see what you have been missing out on.
Today the 27th and my 8.00am surf check on the Outer Reefs here in Tuban was showing a very fat and full 2.7mtr High tide on the make. Wave height between Kuta Reef and Airport Left was still trying to break in the chest to slightly over head class but with the tide doing it’s best to smother the reefs. There were how ever plenty of fun boards and learner surfers frothing at the aqua blue ocean. Most un aware of the massive tide and the 20knott off shore wind. So be it when your learning the main thing is to just get out there and learn right.
The best waves this morning I’d have to say would have been found along the Kuta to Legian stretch of beach breaks before the tide got to fat. The best conditions would have been on the Kuta leg as with the shape of the island the further you go past Kuta the wind tends more cross shore then on shore by the Canggu area. Later this afternoon if the wind settles down a bit our Middle Reef, Bingin / Impossibles and the Racetrack at Ulu might be worth the effort for a few small but fun waves on offer.
Weather wise out there today, right now at 12.15pm we have pretty much just blue sky over us with the temperature a very warm 30 degree’s Celsius, Humidity is 69%. The wind is strong and gusty out of the E-ESE up to 20knot. Unfortunately this strong wind is also keeping all the local fishermen from plying their trade as well.
Tomorrows Surf Forecast is saying we can expect wave height to back off a touch more. But it’s also showing the swell to change direction a little more to the SSW and the period is also much stronger. The good news is that the East Coast might see a few waves in the morning. The bad news is that the wind is again predicted to be strong and gusty out of the E-ESE.
Further out we should see another bump in wave height on the 28th but more likely will be showing on the morning of the 30th April. The behind that on the 3rd of May we might see our first solid swell of the season. The Indian Ocean is lighting up for the month of May and in my opinion I’ve always found that May always brings us some of the bigger swells, so get ready and see what happens.
The next tide today will be dry reef exposing 0.1mtr Low at 4.22pm.
On the dollar exchange rate program I haven’t been out on the main road today yet but Internationally (Google search) 1 Australian dollar is equaling Rp11,281
On the Bali Corona Virus scene there has been a lot of vaccinations happening this month which is a good positive step forward for Bali and it’s population. Unfortunately what I’m seeing is a lot more people forgetting, dropping the main protocols of social distancing and mask wearing. If India is a model for over confidence I think Indonesia needs to be extra careful to not see a second wave or sickness coming here.
Ok that’s me for today and I hope everyone is doing ok where ever you might be. Stay tuned to our Facebook and Instagram accounts for constant up dates and news from right here on your favorite holiday destination of Bali.
