BALI SURF & WEATHER REPORT
29th – 30th April 2021
Hello Bali people and thanks for stopping by the baliwaves (the original Bali surf report website since 1999, for surfers by surfers)
I don’t know if most of you are still aware that Bali is really still hurting, most of Bali anyway. I guess you could say there are a couple of area’s around Canggu and down on the bukit that are cashing in from the European explosion. I also heard from a friend who took a trip up to Balian hoping to score a few waves through our flat spell. He couldn’t believe that there were so many surfers up at Balian as well. My family and I have a small guest house that mostly serves to Aussies and there hasn’t been any real Aussie visitors here on holiday since last Jan 2020. We are not alone of course, especially if any of you have watched the last video clip I posted with footage from Kuta and Legian.
Last year there was lots of people organizing relief with financial and food package relief but that seems to have just about stopped. So if you know people here in Bali please drop them a line and check to see if they are ok. There are a lot of desperation and depression happening around the island. Likewise if any of our friends can spare a dollar or two to help my Family it would be greatly appreciated, thanks (please hit this link to help out).
Ok yesterday the 29th and there was some very nice waves reeling through on Middle Reef (Outer Reefs of Tuban) on the morning low tide. Wave height was up there pushing the double head high mark, but the fun only lasting till the massive 2.7mtr High tide filled it in. There has been a surge in learners turning up to surf “the reefs” the last month and it was kinda expected to see a crowd of them trying to surf Kuta Reef on the low end of a dry low tide. I think mainly escaping for the power and size of Middle’s on the lower end.
My bro and I were on our way out to do some live baiting so we did get a close look at the waves and surfers as we cut out through the channel. Another bad luck day for us searching all the way to just before Soka / Balian for bait fish but there were none to found. But that’s fishing and we will be back out there again soon I hope.
Today the 30th and I thought wave height would be backing off a touch and the wind fresh out of the ESE, so Uluwatu was the surfers choice for the best surfing conditions. Passing by Padang Padang and Impossible’s at 9.00am it was all but flat with just a 1-3 foot fat ripple trying to break on the Impossible stretch of reef.
But I was happy to see a fairly solid 3-4ft hitting Ulu’s Main Peak. Surfing conditions were as clean as they get on the Peak with the wind almost straight Easterly. Crowd wise is was noticeably more quite with only 15 surfers on it. While down at “Temple’s” wave height was more in the 2-3ft+ sector with only 6-10 surfers on it. I was also surprised to find my favorite Warung open at Uluwatu this morning, and call it progress but Warung Surya now have a bathroom / toilet in their warung. I’d say we will be lucky to get a seat once things open back up and the word is out. Who knows what’s next, WiFi ?
Weather wise today here in Bali it’s been another great day around the West Coast. There was a few clouds about early but as the Trede wind kicked in it’s just blue sky and fresh off shore wind. Temperature wise right now at 2.15pm the mercury is on 31 degree’s Celsius, Humidity is at 66%. Wind direction is still cranking out of the East at 14-17knot.
The next tide today in Bali will be a 0.2mtr Low at 6.21pm
Tomorrows Surf Forecast is calling for a slight bump in size but I’ll be waiting for a visual before I put too much faith in that. But at the very least we should still have some good fun sized waves at most locations here on the West Coast and like a good off shore Easterly wind.
Further out the charts are still on track for a better bump in size on the 4th of May.

On the Bali Corona Virus scene there has been a lot of vacinations happening this month which is a good positive step forward for Bali and it’s population. Unfortunately what I’m seeing is a lot more people forgetting, dropping the main protocals of social distancing and mask wearing. If India is a model for over confidence I think Indonesia needs to be extra careful to not see a second wave or sickness and suffering coming here with a further delay in opening back up.
