BALI SURF & WEATHER REPORT
30th -31st May 2021
Hello Bali people and thanks for stopping by the baliwaves (the original Bali surf report website since 1999, for surfers by surfers) We hope everyone is doing the best they can in order to get this crazy World back on track and life and lifes back to where they were before this pandemic began. I’m sure you all know that Bali’s most well know area’s namely Kuta / Legian are still like ghost towns with most doors closed and way too many for sale / rent signs on display.
While Bali’s International airport is closed to International flights and tourist visa’s not available. The latest numbers of International tourists entering Indonesia over the last 5 – 6 months is almost 150,000. But there is no Kuta or Legian. Canggu is the new Kuta and going off daily with near pre pandemic numbers of Europeans entering on the “business / investor” visa. Will Kuta ever be the epi center of Bali tourism again, who knows. But I think it will take a long time for it to get back up and running with most small businesses in the area already bankrupt.
Your average group of Aussies come to Bali for the easy going attitude of the Balinese that is similar to theirs. Being able to let their hair down. Cheap shopping, Bali tee shirts and sarongs, nasi / mie goreng and free flowing massage and bintangs. With the “new wave” of European millennials rapidly bringing their PC culture to Bali it’s going to be interesting to see how the two mesh. But it’s still a ways off from happening with our highly valued Aussie Bali holiday crews still locked down, but hopefully soon Kuta will be revitalised again.
If any of our friends out there can spare us a dollar it would shore make a big difference for my family. If you can please click this link to get to our PayPal link or contact us directly, Thank You.
Yesterday the 30th of May and I took a few runs out to Kuta Reef with one of my young Reef taxi friends so got to have quite a good look at the waves and how there were breaking. The swell had kicked in right on schedule and there were some solid lines wrapping onto the Outer Reefs between Kuta Reef and Airport Left. The Easterly Trade wind was up and gusty early so by the time the tide filled in enough Airport Right would have been a bit blown out, or at least very windy.
There was a pretty good crowd out on Kuta Reef though with up to 30 surfers in the water. Not a high caliber of surfer put most having a go and few of the local boys getting the odd barrel. As the tide filled the waves stopped double sucking and improved quite a lot while Airport Left was pretty well maxing out and no takers for triple head high Middle Reef.
Today the 31st and I was down checking the reefs again early but the tide was still too low at 7.30am and the wind was fresh on shore out of the WNW. So Ray and I made the call to make a quick run over to the East coast to hopefully catch Keramas going off. We finally made it through the thick mostly foreign domestic number plated cars at 9.30am. The wind had already swung to the ESE but was still light and clean on Keramas. As it shows there were some very nice waves and only a minimal crowd of mostly local surfers all over it.
Weather wise today it’s been a hot and sunny start to a new week with the midday temperature hitting 30 degree’s Celsius. Right now at 4.40pm the temp is still on 28C and the Humidity at 67%. The wind is still fresh out of the East at 12knot.
Tomorrow’s Surf Forecast is still looking pretty good and we should have more cranking waves happening at most of Bali’s locations. It is predicted to back off a touch with more lighter variable winds early before the Easterly Trade wind kicks in mid morning.
Ok folks it’s been a long day for us today and I haven’t even started to look at the video footage Ray shot today. Stay tuned though and we will keep the reports and Bali news flowing through to you

More pictures of the beautiful Bali girls please, I miss them
Hi Kurt we will have to hold out a little longer Kurt as at the moment mate there are hardly any beautiful girls hanging in Bali due to the pandemic. Well there are I guess but are mostly learner surfers with tough attitudes and I don’t want to portray them as “Bali beach girls” The whole new PC mob that are hanging out in Bali lately are not your average type Bali guests.
