BALI SURF & WEATHER REPORT
20th May 2021
Hello Bali people and thanks for stopping by the baliwaves (the original Bali surf report website since 1999, for surfers by surfers)
I don’t know if most of you are still aware that Bali is really still hurting, most of Bali anyway. I guess you could say there are a couple of area’s around Canggu and down on the bukit that are cashing in from the European explosion. My family and I have a small guest house that mostly serves to Aussies and there hasn’t been any real Aussie visitors here on holiday since last Jan 2020. We are not alone of course, especially if any of you have watched the last video clip I posted with footage from Kuta and Legian.
If you know people here in Bali please drop them a line and check to see if they are ok. There are a lot of desperation and depression happening around the island. Likewise if any of our friends can spare a dollar or two to help my Family it would be greatly appreciated, thanks (please hit this link to help out). Most of Bali is hanging out for our Australian brothers and sisters to return and Make Bali Great Again.
Hey well yesterday the 19th and wave height was dropping but still in the 2-4ft class here on the Outer Reefs. The early morning low tide saw the best waves hitting Middle Reef even though there were still surfers out on Kuta Reef and Airport left, mostly unknowing the difference or importance of high and low tide on an Indonesian reef, it’s a learning curve I guess.
This mornings surf check on the Outer Reefs was showing that wave height had dropped a little more. Still some fun little waves breaking between Kuta Reef and Airport left in the 2-3ft class (waist to head high), Our man down at Uluwatu also sent through a phone photo he took at 8.30am showing much smaller waves. I almost took a run down there to shoot some photos but threw off after I got the heads up from Dewa. Our friend Dewa works at warung Surya that has a commanding view over all of Uluwatu from Racetrack to Temples. Dewa also mentioned that there quite a few surfers in the water.
Weather wise today it’s been perfect with nothing but blue sky. Right now at 12.20pm the temperature is on 29 degree’s Celsius (well winter is coming on here in the Southern Hemisphere right), Humidity level is at 81%. The Trade wind kicked in around 9.30am and is still not too gusty at 7-9knot. Hopefully it stays that way as I plan to get out there for a paddle later this afternoon.
The next tide today in Bali will be a 1.7mtr High at 3.46pm
Tomorrows surf forecast is calling for a slight bump in wave height with a slightly longer period to go with it. Wind wise I think we will see light and variable wind early before the Trade wind kicks in around mid morning.
Long Range Forecast is calling our next solid swell to hit Bali on the 25th on May.
Today’s photo gallery also features a bunch of photos from the very popular place of interest here in Bali named Tirta Gangga in Amlapura of Karangasem. Tirta Gangga was built by the King of Karangasem around mid 1940 tucked under in the shadow of Mt Agung as a water garden palace. With the eruption of Mt Agung in 1963 the Palace was almost destroyed but then rebuilt. From here in Kuta the drive up the East coast of Bali is by far the most scenic and easy on the eye’s. Its also a lot more sedate, once you pass Sanur and the Keramas area the pace of life in general seems to slow down a little. We highly recommend for you to take a trip up to visit Tirta Gangga with the best time to visit early in the morning before the buses start arriving.
