Bali Surf & Weather report (PPKM)
25th – 27th July 2021
Hello surfers and thanks for your patience with us here in Bali while we are going through this very hard and terribly sad time. As I mentioned in my last (depressing) post Bali and parts of Indonesia have been in a part lock down or PPKM. This round of “part restrictions” started on July 3rd and went through till the 25th. The President of Indonesia was waiting to see if the pandemic was slowing up. Passing the peak and he has since (yesterday the 26th) further extended the PPKM or part restriction of activities, through till the 2nd of August.
For a lot of small business it has been extremely hard times especially if you are in the tourism industry and rely on Aussies, and other English language nations. Most other local business has been carrying on as best they can. The hardest hit area’s still remain to be Tuban, Kuta and Legian with Canggu and the bukit still attracting lots of “investor visa” tourists. Here is an article I saw yesterday on the state of current tourism here in Bali and the “Catch 22” type effect. Check it out if you have time. In my opinion (it’s what my eye’s are seeing) it hit’s pretty close to the truth.

Even though Bali’s domestic terminal and ferry service are open there are very strict rules that travellers must adhere to. All travellers to Bali must have proof of full vaccination and negative PCR / Antigen test (depending on mode of transport for the PCR / Antigen prrof) Another milestone from the top men is the cancellation of the “investor” tourist visa that has been pretty well abused by high end holiday on a budget seeking tourists.
Ok also if you want a tonne of info on the state of affairs here in Bali this is probably the best FB group page to get daily information and stats from

Surfwise here in Bali July hasn’t missed a beat, consistent head to well over head high waves have been peeling off on both the East and West Coasts of this island.
On the morning of the 25th as my son and I motored out to try and catch some fish in our old traditional double outrigger “Jukung” wave height on the Outer Reefs of Tuban was only in the 1-2ft class. There must have been some fake news splashed around of impending big waves as there were massive crowds of learner surfers. That doesn’t happen unless everywhere else is too big usually. Butthrough out the 25th wave height did grow a l;ittle and we did see 2-4ft waves by the time Ray and I returned to the beach around 3.30PM.
Yesterday the 26th and pretty much as predicted wave height had boosted a little more with some solid waves hitting the Southern end of the island and some very nice waves breaking between Kuta reef and Airport left. Today the 27th and more good waves are saturating both sides of the island again and should continue to hold into tomorrow the 28th. There was a big swell predicted to hit Bali / Indo around the 29th but has since been downgraded quite a lot. How ever it is still going to roll in on the back of our current swell and keep things interesting.
Further out we have a big wave generator heading up from Australia with a lot of southerly direction and if it holds true it will light Bali up like a Christmas tree on the 32st of July into the 1st of August before tapering off.
Ok with the easing of the PPKM restrictions we will get back out there and start shooting some more photos. We at baliwaves thought it best to do the right thing for everyone’s sake and safety, and play our part to help get Bali back on track and of course, respecting the Governor and Presidents decree.
Just for the record weather wise today here in South Kuta / Tuban we have a mostly sunny day with some cloud fluffing about. Temperature wise the mercury is correctly sitting on 27 degree’s Celsius at 10.03am. Humidity level is at 82% and the wind is still light out of the NE, expected to turn SE anytime soon.
