Bali Surf & Weather report (PPKM)
31st August 2021
Hello surfers and thanks again for dropping into the baliwaves (The original Bali surf report website since 1999). Bali is still currently under micro restrictions (PPKM) and has been now extended again through till the September 6th. Although Bali’s domestic airport and inter island ferry services are open it is now only for fully vaccinated people. However, it’s sad that there are still many foreigners and locals not heeding the safety advice and directions of the government.
Ok thanks for your support and I hope you liked the photo up dates from our friends at Rote and G-Land we have posted since our last Bali report. Here along the West coast wave height has been holding in the 2-4ft and maybe even the odd slightly bigger one hitting Middle Reef. I’ve had the boat out for a couple of sessions with some good and bad luck. It was so good to get some fresh fish back into my family’s diet again.
Today the 31st and with a “middle of the moon phase” tides I thought I’d get out and shoot Kuta Reef from the relative safety of the channel. I pulled up around 9am to find 8 surfers in the water and the tide almost on the bottom of the forecast 1.0mtr low tide. Even though it was “low tide” a 1.o mtr water level over the reef is enough to be able to surf Kuta reef. As the tide passed through the bottom and back into the run in again the number of surfers left in the water was down to 2.
Lucky there was a few local surfers (Mus Jekson and son along with Yuhdis in the water early) or it would have been tough to get some good shots. As it was I put in 3 hours to get today’s photo gallery. There was some nice fun sized waves and fairly consistent all morning. As you can see in the gallery there were quite a few waves that went through unridden.
Surfing conditions were pretty good. Clean blue sky and off shore wind that slowly kept increasing in strength.
The next tide today will be a 1.5mtr High at 3.20pm
Weather wise outside right now at 3.00pm we still have pretty much just blue sky and the temperature is now at 29 degrees Celsius, Humidity is at 73%. Wind direction is coming out of the ESE at 27km/h.
Tomorrow’s Surf Forecast is calling for similar sized waves, maybe just a fraction smaller if anything for the 1st day of September.
Further Out Surf Forecast we can expect a new and bigger swell to start hitting Bali’s reefs and beaches sometime on the 2nd of Sept, so not long to wait. This swell should bring some Indian Ocean power to us and keep delivering waves across Bali through until the 5th then hopefully by the 7th we should get another bump and still more swell in transit further out in the IO.
On the Corona Virus situation here in Bali we are still in “PPKM” or micro lock down that has been further extended now until the 6th of Sept. According to the latest numbers and stats on Bali’s number of recorded infections the numbers are looking great. But there has also been a massive drop in the number of tests being done so its still fingers crossed. Wear a mask, avoid crowds and keep washing the hands.

Ok friends’ thanks again for hanging in there and believe me we are trying our best to act normal and can’t wait to see the end of this. It’s now going on 20 months of bugger all income and only just surviving from our friends that have felt my pain from a far. We have managed to sell a few tee shirts through June and July but only a handful of orders for August and looking grim. So please if any of our friends can spare a dollar or two and order an original baliwaves tee shirt (also now in long sleeve) you would not only be helping my family out but also others in the production sequence. https://www.baliwaves.com/2021/06/help-baliwaves-get-through-the-bali-corona-virus-cash-flow-crisis-with-a-rp90000-original-baliwaves-tee-shirt/
Thanks for all your support over the last 23 years. Please stay safe and keep the Bali / Indo dream alive.
