Hello Bali people and thanks again for checking in here at the baliwaves.com. Not much change for the tourism sector here on the once thriving holiday island. Our Bali International airport did open as I mentioned before. But since it’s opening on the 14th of October not one international flight has landed in Bali. There was also a press statement from the airport saying that there are no international flights scheduled to land in Bali for the remainder of 2021.
We really want to Thank all our friends and supporters for all the help that you have given us to help get us this far, we are almost through this. Please don’t give up on us through this last leg of “containment” So if you could spare a dollar or two (every dollar makes a difference) then hit this link https://www.baliwaves.com/2020/08/baliwaves-needs-your-support/
Yes, so still no relief for the tourism sector and the massive influx in domestic tourism is not doing anything for all the empty restaurants or your average local Balinese business. But I can vouch for the big surge in traffic that is normal during the lead up to the Christmas and New Year’s holiday. I don’t know where party goers are going to spend New Year’s Eve this year as there are restrictions in place for crowd gathering. It will be interesting to see what really happens though. So stay tuned!
The following few days after our last report our area was trashed by strong gale force wind and some of the heaviest constant rain, I’ve personally witnessed in all my years in Bali. The rain fell so hard that almost all our fishing crews’ boats filled with water and almost sank. There were two unlucky friends’ boats that actually did sink. At times like those we all jump in and help out. It was a long morning swimming around in the wind and rain bailing out rain water and then pushing most of the boats up high and dry on the beach. I’ve left my fishing boat in the water along with a few of the other hard-core fishermen. In hope of a few more expeditions before the season well and true sets in for the worst.
Yesterday the 8th is was good to see the sun back out and the heat and humidity was a bit of a shock to the system. Not a lot of swell showing here along Bali’s West Coast. If you were up early there were a few low tide waves to be had in the Canggu area and possibly down at Uluwatu. But the wind has not been to favorablt for the bukit end of the West Coast.
Today the 9th and I was hoping that this morning’s early morning clean and almost windless conditions would hold out a little longer for the tide to run in enough for Keramas. Scheduled for around the 1.00pm mark. But by the time I battled the domestic traffic and trucks on the highway the wind was already strong out of the WSW on Keramas. But as you can see in the photos the waves were still pretty clean on the face. Lots of little grommets and some big grommets in the line up to make a total number of surfers of around 15-18.
There were no surfers down the beach at the Car Park Peak or further down at KFC. But looking up the beach towards Masceti there looked to be a few ridable, but empty lefts peeling off. I also stopped off at “Secrets” on the way home to see how the new rock wall that was being constructed went. Well, the new wall is finished and at the time it seemed fine and not affecting the waves. There were a few little waves breaking while I was there and only 1 surfer in the water. Secrets used to be a cool place to hang out with some good shadey structures to hang out under. But if you scroll through the photos there is not much left for the beach goer in the area. Hopefully they will do something nice that doesn’t involve too much more “development”.
Weather wise today it was mostly overcast over at Keramas with some bursts of intense sun and heat while I was there. Back here in the Kuta area this afternoon it’s been 50/50 with the temperature peaking at 32 degrees Celsius.
Tomorrows surf Forecast is saying we can expect gustier W-WSW wind and similar sized surf again. Best size will be over on the East Coast with the SSW swell direction.
