Hello everyone and thanks again for staying tuned to the baliwaves (the original Bali surf report website since back in 1999).
Well, I’m slowly re adjusting back to Western contact and speaking English again. Today is day 6 of our Family friend and guest from Australia staying with us. Up early every morning and surfing all over the island every day. It’s a harder task that living in my old fishing boat all day and I should be adjusted by the end of Jono’s 10-day visit to Bali.
Yesterday we surfed up along the West Coast of Bali about an hour North of home. No change of pace on the roads up in this area with millions of motorbikes and cars all in a rush to make a gridlock. But arriving at the beach the scene was very quiet while the tide was just starting to run in.
Only maybe 5-7 surfers were on the sandbar with the right-hand river mouth still needing more tide. Surfing conditions were clean and glassy early before the wind eventually turned to the SSE and cross on shore. As the tide did fill in and the morning turned to late morning the crowds did turn up with 20+ on the sandbar and 30+ surfers on the river mouth.
Today the 25th and mostly due to a lack of time to search weather and wind patterns yesterday I only checked one wind and swell forecast. My bad, as the one website had the wind predicted as Easterly and off shore along our West Coast. So if you saw my morning surf and weather video report on our baliwaves Facebook page you would have saw that we were on location at Balangan beach.
Hoping to see some clean and crisp waves peeling off from the point and little to no surfers in the water. Nope, not to be. Wave height was ok with 2-4ft waves but the wind was fresh out of the Western quadrant at 8-12knot. We did give it a couple of hours, hoping that the wind would magically swing off shore but it never did.
So, we thought we would head back and just check the Outer reefs of Tuban. Not to be, there was a heavy Police and Army personnel presence on the streets on the way in early and by the time we turned out of the Balangan turn off, it was grid locked and all traffic being diverted towards Nusa Dua. So, it was a long drive home.
Weather wise today, well except for the wind direction the last couple of days have delivered perfect sunny blue sky Bali weather. Right now, at 2.00pm the temperature is still a warm 32 degrees Celsius; Humidity is at 75%. Wind direction is currently coming out of the W-WSW @ 8-12knot.
Tomorrow’s Surf Forecast is calling for wave height to be slowly backing off throughout the day. I won’t go with the Buoyweather calling for more off shore wind again. but Windy is predicting early light Northerly before turning West and then WSW by early afternoon.
Good news for Australian returning to Bali with 1AU$ now buying over Rp10,700 Rates do vary at different outlets. My tip for any Aussies using credit cards this year is to avoid the CBI (commonwealth bank Indonesia) ATMs as through my experience their rate of exchange is just way to low compared to most every other ATM.
