Hello everyone and thanks again for staying tuned to the baliwaves (the original Bali surf report website since back in 1999).
Ok folks well the last week saw mostly very small waves around the island and fishing was the most important thing on my mind. Even with all the hype in the media about open borders, no quarantine here in Bali we are still waiting to see a difference in the day-to-day survival situation here on the island of the Gods. The proof is in the pudding or I should say room bookings and they are not showing yet. Hopefully, slowly but surely things are improving and it is only just a matter of time I feel before the island will be buzzing with real holiday seekers again.
Talking about fishing my son Ray and I have been doing ok and keeping the freezer full which really takes a load off our family daily food budget. I’ll try and get a fishing report up soon for all our surfer slash fisho’s that tune in.
Yesterday I also managed to load up a fresh video clip onto our baliwaves Youtube channel and embedded into the baliwaves.com. It’s just a 2-minute clip featuring the famous Sandbar section at Canggu. Take a look and when you get a few spare minutes have a look through our huge collection of clips we have on Youtube (baliwaves)
Today the 12th and after sorting out a contaminated (water) carburetor in my 20yr old outboard engine yesterday I had our old double outrigger parked out in the channel at Kuta Reef. As it shows in the photos wave height was in the 2-3ft+ (shoulder to slightly over head) and the wind mostly light off shore while I was out there. There were a few nice waves peeling off on Kuta Reef. But still not quite big enough to produce those sucky barrels that it well known for. The local boys were on fire out there again and owned the best waves. No shortage of learners as can be expected with the perfectly suited conditions for them.
There were also some nice and very consistent waves hitting Airport Left and rumors of some perfect ones getting into the other side of the runway.
Weather wise it was a dull and mostly cloudy morning here in South Kuta/ Tuban. The sun was trying to break through but just couldn’t quite get there. Wind direction early was mostly out of the North before a light Easterly switch then going to the SSE and then all the way to the S-SW
The next tide today will be a 1.8mtr High at 7.35pm.
We are also heading for a Full Moon with the Balinese Calendar stating it will rise on the evening of the 16th
Tomorrows Surf Forecast is calling for a slight drop in wave height but with mostly clean off shore ESE-SE wind (west coast) all day.
The dollar exchange rate, the official rate is saying that 1AU$ is buying Rp10,670 I don’t think you will be getting that exchange rate but with the real rate in find feel free to try bargaining for a better rate that displayed, cash is king here in Indonesia. If you’re using an ATM expect a lower rate than what the exchangers offer (cash is the king).
Again, I want to express Many Many Thanks to everyone that has helped my Family and i survive through this crisis, I don’t know where we would be without your help to get this far. Please don’t give up on us through this last leg of “containment” So if you could spare a dollar or two (every dollar makes a difference) then hit this link https://www.baliwaves.com/2020/08/baliwaves-needs-your-support/
