Thanks again for staying tuned to the baliwaves (the original Bali surf report website since back in 1999).
Hi folks and well I have to say the last few days have been hard and fast. On the 4th and wave height only showing in the 1-1ft+ range between Kuta reef and Airport Left. We decided on taking a run down to Uluwatu to squeeze out the last bit of power out of the swell. We knew it would be small, but even Uluwatu in the head high range still has enough power and punch. The first half of today’s photo gallery is from Ulu on the 4th.
With the small waves you can count on a steady crowd at Uluwatu. The tide was filling in fast so the Racetrack didn’t come into play and the main focus was on the Main Peak. At the peak of the morning crowd I counted around 65 surfers spread over the 200 mtrs between the top of the track and far inside peak just South of the Main Peak. Wave height was in the shoulder to head high with a very in frequent slightly bigger freak set.
Temples was probable the best pick for a paddle with only 8 surfers making the paddle down. As the tide did fill in towards late morning Temples was done and even on the Main Peak there wasn’t much breaking.
Yesterday the 5th and my crew of friends from Pantai Jerman made the 3.5hr drive up to Tianyar in Karangasem on the North Eastern end of the island. To support and appreciate our good friend on his wedding day. It was a whirl wind trip arriving just before midday at the wedding location. In true Karangasem fashion the next 3 hrs were filled with eating and drinking. Before long it was time to drive back and the reality of stop-go traffic for the last leg of the trip.
Today the 6th and wave height did bump up in size as predicted on the 5th with head to double head high waves breaking between Kuta Reef and Airport left. So after a 6.15am surf check this morning the 6th we decided to make a visit down to Balangan. It was a good call arriving to find only a hand full of surfers in the water and 3-4ft+ waves. But alas by mid-morning there was a a lot more surfers turned up. The send half of today’s gallery features today’s waves from Balangan this morning.
Weather wise early this morning it was a little bit cloudy and over cast with the wind light out of the NNE. It wasn’t until mid-morning that the sun powered up and the wind dedicate to the ESE.
Tomorrows Surf Forecast is calling for more light and variable early morning wind before the Tradey kicks in. Wave height will be slowly backing off throughout the day. I’m sure there will still be plenty of options for a paddle though.
Further out there is plenty more swell in transit to Indonesia. By the 11th just about all of Bali should be lit up again.
The National holidays that are currently in full swing come to an end soon and by Monday we should see much tamer traffic. So in the meantime make sure you allow a little extra time and patience if you’re driving anywhere.
