Hello everyone and thanks again for staying tuned to the baliwaves (the original Bali surf report website since back in 1999).
Ok, we hope everyone has been getting a few waves in or just taking it easy where ever you all may be. It’s been all systems go over here for us and we have also managed to score a few nice waves. Managing to squeeze in another run up the West Coast to the river mouth destination and some easy-going lefts and rights. Balian doesn’t always offer fun, user friendly waves. It is a temperamental location that is open to probably the most swell in all of Indonesia. So, knowing when to make the trip up there and dodge the traffic and crowds that tend to visit is the real trick to making it a memorable day.
We only shot some video footage while we were on location and I have edited some frames from the footage. I will include some video in our next video clip. I did post just 1 wave from the day on our baliwaves Facebook page and I think it had almost 90K downloads in the last 2 days since posting.
Then the following day I took Ray and Ketut for a morning out trolling lures up off the coast of Tabanan. No luck but conditions were pristine, we did see a little bit of action but again the hooks never stuck.
Yesterday Sunday the 1st of May and Bali was well and truly experiencing a massive influx of domestic visitors from all over Indonesia. I was blown away yesterday on my daily shuffle up to Kuta by the thousands of people on Kuta beach. Especially after the last 2 years of not really having the Idul Fitri holiday that comes at the end of each Ramadan period. Yesterday was just the tip of the iceberg and I think we can expect to see a whole lot more people visiting Bali for the well-earned break. So, if your here and never experience this traditional holiday, stay calm. Expect long delays if you’re driving anywhere and be forgiving as many of the drivers on the road do not really have an agenda.
This morning the 2nd of May and Ketut took another run back up the coast a little way to shoot some more video footage for us (frame grabs included in the gallery). The early morning conditions were perfect for the river mouth rights, rising tide and fresh off shore Northerly wind. The usual 20-30 surfers were on the rights and looking at the video footage it was just about as good as it gets. Local surfers Made Dera and Nyoman Satria were the stand out locals to watch. The left hand Sandbar was also providing some bone crunchers until the tide got too high and local warung owner Putu “Gumuk” was all over it as usual.
Weather wise today it’s been another hot and sunny day here on the holiday island. Right now at 4.40pm the temp is on 31C and the Humidity is at 75%. Wind direction is E-SE @15-18knot.
On the International tourism revival scene, it does seem to be changing rapidly. Especially with the number of Australians pouring back to their home away from home. It really is a buzz after the last 2 years to see just how fast international visitors are returning to help make Bali great again.
Tomorrows Surf Forecast is calling wave height to be slightly backing off throughout the day. It also looks like the swell direction is still favoring the East Coast, coming more out of a SSW direction. Wind direction should be light early before gearing up in strength out of the ESE.
Ok crew I’ve got to go hit the jogging track for a “shuffle” up to Kuta and keep wearing away this covid belly I’ve accumulated. Have a top day and make sure you keep an eye on the baliwaves and our soc med platforms for mor news and updates as it happens from here in Bali.
